Updating Panel Configurations in

GEOVIA Minex

In today’s tip, I’ll be discussing how to easily change existing panel configurations in an underground
mine design.  Creating multiple versions of a mine design for reserves analysis for different panel
configurations can often be tedious.

With Minex, the process is easy and allows engineers to spend more time analyzing results rather than
building a new design from scratch.

Before we start, please ensure that:

Your Underground Project (*.ugpr) is open

Your Geometry (*.GM3) files are open

Using a Room and Pillar design, we will update the MAIN panel configuration in a few simple steps.

1. First, open up Data Manager under the UG Design menu. This gives engineers the ability to
change crosscut length, spacing, angels, and offsets to existing panels.

3. Select Panel Configurations from the drop down and then select the Panel you want to change
the configuration.  For this example, we will change the MAIN configuration.

4. Expand the menu for MAIN and we can see how the existing panel is configured along with a
visible preview of the panel configuration on the right.

5. For this example, let’s change the road widths for A through E from 5m to 6m. You can change
each road width one at a time, or if we hold the CTRL key we can select all entries at once and
simply change the value from 5 to 6.

6. Next, we will alter the crosscut spacing from 40m to 50m. Again, we can select all crosscuts at
once and change 40m to 50m. Save your changes.

7. Now that we have updated to our new configuration, we need to re-compute our pillars. Right
click on the centerline of the MAIN panel and select Compute Pillars.

8. Complete the form below as per your design requirements and click on Compute.

9. The MAIN panel configuration has been updated and you can now report the updated reserves.
