Thesis Statement:

Although same-sex marriage is legal in the United States, homosexuals still have to

overcome many significant obstacles, especially discrimination and hate crimes.

Detail Outline:

I. Introduction

A. Homosexuals are a minority group in the world; even though they have their

civil right, they also have to face many hardships.

1. In the past, homosexuality had been considered a crime and a disease in

American society (Riggs 440).

2. In California, same-sex marriage is legal in June 2008 by the long effort of

the gay right supporters (Riggs 436).

3. Bullying is a serious problem around the world, and homophobic bullying

frequently happen in school (Orue and Calvete 1).

4. Homosexuals are often being discriminated against and teased about their

sexual orientation by heterosexual and homophobic (Orue and Calvete 1).

B. Thesis Statement: Although same-sex marriage is legal in the United States,

homosexuals still have to overcome many significant obstacles, especially

discrimination and hate crimes.

II. The hardship still against homosexuals today.

A. Homosexuals are still a subject that people talk about, many people think

homosexual is not natural (Guiltenane 1).

B. For some people, homosexual is still a forbidden zone that they do not want to

mention (Guiltenane 1).

C. Many people are at the stage of accepting homosexual, sexual orientation is an

issue they cannot accept (Guiltenane 1-2).

III. Discrimination and hate crime is the hardship that many homosexuals facing in

their life.

A. Homosexual is at the higher risk for stress-sensitive psychiatric disorders than

normal people (Dale et al 1).

1. Discrimination will be increasing and generating the risk, which make

homosexual having more pressure (Dale et al 1).

2. Homosexuals are more frequently than heterosexual people to having

discrimination in their lifetime (Dale et al 1).

3. Most of the homosexual discrimination experience is about sexual

orientation (Dale et al 1).

4. Homosexual or a minority sexual orientation have a greater risk for suicide

attempts (Dale et al 2).

B. Bullying is a prevalent problem that homosexuals need to face in school (Orue

and Calvete 1).

1. Homophobic bullying is often motivated by prejudice against sexual

orientation (Orue and Calvete 1).

2. Victims of homophobic bullying because of their appearance, behavior,

physical traits, or identify as LGBT (Orue and Calvete 1).

3. The negative attitudes toward homosexual is the relation between exposure

to homophobic behavior at school and the perpetration of homophobic

bullying (Orue and Calvete 2).

4. The victims of Homophobic bullying have important consequences, such as

depression, self-harm, and suicidal behavior (Orue and Calvete 2).

C. The anti-gay attitudes of homosexual are a big issue for LGBT society and it

also affect homosexual.

1. Homosexual should not exist in the world, and it break the natural rule.

(Hsiao 1)

2. Sexual ethics begins with the person and sex only have two purposes,

procreative and unitive (Hsiao 1-4).

3. Biological union is only possible with opposite sex, human only can be

procreative with different sex (Hsiao 4).

4. Anti-gay attitudes from homophobic is damaging to the physical and

psychological of homosexual (Bahns 1).

IV. Same-sex marriage is legal in the United States, and it is a right for homosexual

which they gave a long-time effort, but homophobic people having the different

attitude of same-sex marriage.

A. The hardships that homosexual face in the history and the effort they make to

get the right.

1. Homosexual being deprived of their rights and benefits only because of

their sexual orientation (Bahns 8).

2. Homosexual is often being known as a disease and crime before (Riggs

440).

3. Homosexual identity is still stigmatized, many homosexuals do not have

personal courage and risk to “coming out of the closet” and they hide

themselves (Riggs 442).

4. Some gay people with a high place in society trying to change society's

attitudes about homosexuality (Riggs 441).

B. The right for LGBT group in the United States, the history about same-sex

marriage.

1. Gay right supporters struggle over same-sex marriage (McCarthy 1).

a. Same-sex unions having all the rights of heterosexual marriages (Riggs

436).

b. More than ten thousand lesbian and gay couples were married

Proposition 8 (Riggs 436).

c. President Obama became the first U.S. president to support same-sex

marriage (Riggs 436).

2. Many American are against to same-sex marriage, but the majority that

does so is dwindling rapidly (McCarthy 1).

3. Same-sex marriage is not only a legal change, it is also a sexual revolution

(McCarthy 1).

4. The real reason that homophobic oppose to gay-marriage.

a. The religion of homophobic that they do not accept homosexual,

traditional marriage is between man and woman (Eichenwald 1).

b. Another main reason for homophobic oppose to homosexual is personal

distaste for homosexuality (Eichenwald 1).

C. The same-sex marriage are non-traditional ways of marriage.

1. Homosexual activity is immoral and gay marriage is against to the natural

rule (Hsiao 7).

2. Gay marriage cannot secure the relation between a child and parents (Shell

3).

3. Homosexual do not have ability to reproductive with the same sex parent,

which cannot consider a real marry (Shell 3).

V. Conclusion

A. Homosexual victim cannot be an excuse for school violence injurers

B. The action of homosexual is relative to the society.

C. Same-sex marriage is a right for homosexual people who can get marriage,

also a law that protect them.

Introduction:

Homosexual is a minor group in the world. Even though homosexual is a minor group, the

social sector also pays attention to the issue of homosexuality. Homosexual and their

supports are still facing many hardships. In the past, homosexual had been considered a crime

and a disease in American society. Homosexual people do not have courage to telling the

truth and they trying to hide themselves. However, there are more and more right for the

LGBT group. Same-sex marriage is one of the right for homosexual, which is legal in June

2008 by the long effort of the homosexual. Homosexuals are having to facing some society

issue, such as bullying and decimation. Bullying is a prevalent problem in school and also in

society. Homosexuals are often being the victims of bullying, because their sexual

orientation. Discrimination is another serious problem homosexual need to confront.

Homosexuals are always harassed by other people to tease about their sexual orientation.

According to Bhans, “Anti-gay harassment is both widespread and damaging to the physical

and psychological well-being of homosexual individuals”. Sexual orientation is only one

thing homosexuals different to heterosexual, but they need to confront all the problem. Same-

sex marriage absolute a right for homosexual, but many homophobic trying to oppose this

law. Although same-sex marriage is legal in the United States, homosexuals still have to

overcome many suffering, especially discrimination and hate crimes.
