Overview
The PIT-S software simulates low strain integrity testing. The simulation is intended for
educational purposes and to assist existing PIT users in their record evaluation.
PIT-S allows the user to enter the pile shape, realistic soil layer properties and
characteristics of the low strain hammer impact, including point of impact.
PIT-S displays the Velocity plus Force signals as a function of time for simulation of an
instrumented hammer. Alternatively, PIT-S allows viewing of the resulting Acceleration or
Displacement signals, and the Velocity signals at two locations (V+V option).
The Wave Reflections screen allows the user to observe the wave propagation as a
function of time and length. Colored curves help distinguish compressive and tensile
reflections. Slow motion animation allows observing the progression of wave reflections ,
with auto play, pause, manual play and restart functions.
The user may apply the same data enhancement parameters to the calculated pile
velocity that the pile integrity software PIT-W allows.
Current users of PIT / PIT-W may use the "visibility option" to overlay the curves simulated
by PIT-S over measured curves for a simple signal matching process for investigating the
cause of observed reflections. Clicking on the "Signal Match" button will start a wizard that
will help the user to start the signal matching process.

Specifications
Available features depend on the Version. The specifications below are valid for the Full
version:
1. Input parameters:
Pulse width
Pulse amplitude
Length (LE)
Cross section area along the pile length - the pile is divided in elements with
lengths of approximately 125 mm (SI units) or 0.5 ft (English units), and the
area of each element can be changed individually or in groups. Areas on a
selected region can be changed so that the region is shaped as a rectangle,
triangle, trapezoid or circumference.
Reference Area - the default value is the top area (AR); changing this value
will change the percentage area variations.
Soil resistance along pile shaft and at toe - the soil is divided in the same
number of elements as the pile, plus one additional element for the toe. The
resistance of each element can be changed individually or in groups.
Furthermore, a soil layers distribution can be entered, with different soil
types and densities; the program will automatically estimate the resistances
accordingly.
Dampings of soil elements along the shaft and at the toe; the value is
automatically changed according to soil type if a layers distribution is
entered

To get specific help about an input box, click on the input box then press F1. On the dialog boxes,
click on the question mark (?) on the right side of the caption bar; the cursor will show a question
mark. Move the cursor to the input box or control for which help is desired, and click the mouse
again. A help text will pop-up in most cases. Press F1 if the help text does not appear.

International issues:
The format of numbers and dates that will appear on graphs and printouts are set on the
Windows "Control Panel". For entering numbers, only periods (dots) are allowed as
decimal separators. However, the program will automatically convert commas to periods.
