Objectives o Identify and describe the major areas of plant science.
o Identify career opportunities in plant science, and determine the
education and training they entail.
Standards o 3.0- Career Planning and Management
o 3.2- Understand the scope of career opportunities and know the
requirements for education, training, and licensure.
o 3.4- Understand the role of and function of professional
organizations, industry associations, and organized labor in a
productive society.
Materials/  Access to you tube for anticipatory set
 PowerPoint with visual aid on career opportunities in horticulture
Accommodations  Notes handout that goes along with PowerPoint
 Keep instructions and direction chunked
 Proved extra time if needed as well as repetition
Procedure o Interest approach- play you tube video-

o Ask students questions about the video and about their career
goals – focusing on ag related careers as we move into horticulture
o Pair and share about ag careers with person sitting next to them
o Warm up- “KWL” chart- students will write what they know
under “K”, what they want to know under “w” about horticulture
careers, the “L” will be what they learned after the lesson
o Present PowerPoint on horticulture careers
o Students should be following along with their given notes
throughout the PowerPoint presentation.
o Checking for understanding throughout the presentation

-Greenhouse caretaker, plant propagator, orchard care taker, pesticide
applicator, groundskeeper, tractor operator and combine harvester,
greenhouse manager, golf course manager, pesticide dealer, crop supply
salesperson, greenhouse supply sales person, crop marketing and
production specialist, fertilizer technologist, erosion control scientist, soil
conservationist, seed technologist, turf grass specialist.
