2018-2019 Student Exchange Program Application

There is no one solution to a problem. For every encounter that a person faces,
there is an infinite number of ways in which to respond. The action undertaken is not
merely defined by the situation at hand, but as well as the enactor’s frame of mind,
shaped by their personal beliefs, knowledge, and ideals. Broadened perspectives
and an open mind, therefore, enable people to better understand and analyze the
situation, and thus, create a befitting solution.

Student exchange programs ratify the aforementioned concept. These programs

present students an opportunity to broaden their horizons and obtain knowledge, not
only in the form of education from other institutions, but also insights to their
character. Thus, enabling them to grow as individuals, preparing them further to
better serve the country.

Intrapersonal development is the primary output of this exchange. This experience

will enable me to develop in three (3) key areas, specifically, my independence, my
interpersonal skills, and lastly, my sense of identity. I have lived my entire existence
in the Philippines, I know no other way of living other than how I live at present. I am
very blessed to have been well-provided for, however, this has also led me to be
sheltered. The independence that I will gain from my stay in unfamiliar lands will
equip me with the necessary skills in order to easily adapt to any changes in my
environment. Apart from this, dealing and cohabiting with individuals from diverse
cultures and backgrounds will give me better ground when dealing with foreign
entities. Lastly, through this program, I will have a better grasp of my identity as a
Filipino. As they say, to learn about yourself is to learn about others, you will never
know what it feels like to be awake if you have never been asleep. Exposure to
foreigners will allow myself to cognize the different aspects of my being, such as my
mannerisms, movements, and responses, which make me Filipino, and others not.
Thus, leading to a better appreciation of what it truly means to be a Filipino.

Business is characterized by two statements, in a state of flux and highly complex.

Given this, it is imperative to actively pursue further education and attain a global
standpoint. As a business student, I want the local business scene to flourish and
increase its international competitiveness. Limiting myself to local exposure and
merely studying theories will only give me a shallow understanding of its underlying
mechanisms. By integrating myself into foreign operations, especially first-world
ones, I will experience firsthand, what sets world-class businesses apart from ours
and gain a deeper understanding of their practices and observe their manner of
conducting business, with the hopes of bringing them home.

Through this student exchange program, I aim to foster an international mindset and
strengthen my Filipino heart. Thus, enabling myself to be in a better position to
