Reflect on the End-of-Semester Peer Evaluation by answering the following items/questions.

1. Reflection on Project Experience

a. Provide a description as to how well the group functioned as a team. Justify your

response.

I believe the team functioned extremely well. We had one member of our team that dropped

the class. So that meant right from the start we became a team of three. I think rather than hindering us

it helped us. It made decisions much quicker. It made meetings much more decisive and the ability of

each of us to have more input and hands on throughout the chapter. To me it was a big advantage. One

of our readings discussed team size and how it impacts a team. I think we are a very good example of

just that. The team’s composition spanned three times zones. We had three very different backgrounds

and current carriers. To come up with a product that appears to be coming from one united entity can

be very challenging. I think we were able to pull this off with much thanks to the various technology

we used. One of which was a company conference call. This enabled us to all communicate even with

the hundreds of miles we were apart. It is truly amazing to be part of something that spanned the
USA! Another large tool was Google docs. This amazing piece of cloud based software enabled us to

work real time on the project. When you couple the two pieces of technology (Conference call,

Google Docs) its almost identical to having everyone fly to a meeting spot each week. I have to this

day never had a school group project work as good as this one did. It was a great experience I can only

hope to have repeated in other classes.

b. Provide a description of each of the team members’ (including yourself)

contribution to the project/team effort.

To start off answering this question I will talk about my own personal contributions. I feel that

I bring some unique knowledge to the group with my current employer being GE that is a leader in

teaming. The entire plant I work for is teaming focused and is set up in that fashion. This gives me the

ability to share what I have found works and doesn’t. This came in very critical with the chapter being

on innovation and creativity. GE was a point of reference on many things in the chapter and helped

me to have a personal connection to the chapter. I feel this inside information made me a great point of

reference.

Jill Geremia, was outstanding in getting the paper on track. She is a school teacher herself and

was able to give much guidance in the areas of grammar and APA format. As well as giving us an

amazing amount of references to utilize. One huge tool that we were able to use was google docs. I

believe Jill almost lived on that document for a great time. She was always on the chat bar as well as

looking over our work and making edits or suggestions. To her credit she truly went above and

beyond what anyone could have asked of her. I have never worked with someone so dedicated.
Wendy Cook, provided us with the company phone line for our team meetings. This came in

very handy and she was able to provide a great deal of feedback onto the project. She herself is on

teams that push new product in the company she works for. Wendy was never afraid to give her

opinion on things. Which was very good to have a part of the team. Often you fall into situations

where no one wants to tip the boat. Wendy is not afraid to tell you if she feels something works or

doesn’t. Being in the field she is in, I very much respect her opinion and feedback. Wendy added a

great deal to the team.

2. Reflection on Peer Evaluation

a. Describe the overall feedback received from the other team members. (Are there

patterns in the feedback?)

I think I have graded myself harder on some things than the team did. However, they

brought up very valid points of improvement that seem to be right on par with my self-

reflection. I still feel that my self-grade is a much better reflection of me. I know I lack in

areas that the team graded me well in. I do take it as a complement however that they did

rate me higher. I am very critical of myself and try to overcome my shortcomings. In

seeing this positive feedback in areas, helps me feel better that in some way I was able to

connect to the group.

b. Areas of Strength: (Are you in agreement with the team members’ perspective of areas

of strength? Explain.)

The same that that makes me strong is what makes me weak. I am a very good

listener and this allows me to really think about what I say. Rather than just kicking

out the first bit of information on the tip of my tongue. I process and then wait for my

time to inject the information into the group talk session. So yes, I do agree but at the

same time I must work on the strength so it’s not also a weakness.

c. Opportunities for Improvement: (Are you in agreement with the team members’

perspective of opportunities for improvement? Explain.)

Yes, I am in total agreement with what they are saying I need to improve on. I

lean more on the courteous side in conversations. I find it very hard to inject myself

into a fluid conversation with little to no breaks in voice exchange. This is a big

challenge for me, as it almost seems I must in some circumstances talk over others to

get a point in edge wise. It is something that doesn’t feel right for me to do. Seeing the

feedback however helps me see that people want that type of injection into the

conversation. It is something that I am aware of and makes me anxious inside when I

have a good idea but can find a break in people talking.

3. Plan for Team Leadership beyond this Semester: (Based on the theories, concepts, or skills

from this class, identify at least two things you will do differently based on your project
experience and peer feedback. You are encouraged to frame these items in terms of personal

goals challenging yourself to enhance your team leadership capacities.)

The first personal goal that I have is to try and implement what I have learned. One major

thing was the topic of group conflict. I never really liked any sort of conflict in the groups. This

class in week four covered how it is important to have conflict. It also explained the differences

between relationship and task conflict. I will take this with me and utilize it to the best of my

ability. I think that if more people were excepting of conflict in a group more can and will come

out of the group. I especially like the idea of injecting that conflict in right away to hammer out

any differences that could arise and snowball out of control. Early on in team meetings I hope to

utilize this. To explain to the group members and make them at ease with using conflict to better

ourselves and project. I think this is something that is very much achievable. It’s something that

can be done during initial introductions to group members.

The second thing that is very important to me is improving myself through the feedback

I received. It was something that I had known about myself in group situations but never really

brought to light. I struggle greatly with forcing my injections into conversations that involve more

than one other person. It was eye opening to see that others almost desire that type of injection of

input. So this is something I am going to actively try and do throughout my schooling and

professional situations. I plan on injecting myself and finding polite ways to do so more often.

This will help me not be overshadowed by people who are very vocal in the group.
