Title: “INTENSIVE HOME VISITATION TO PREVENT LEARNERS FROM ABSENTEEISM”

PROPONENT: EARL V. CAPURAS

TYPE OF ACTION RESEARCH: Individual Research

I. CONTEXT & RATIONALE:

The incidence of student’s absenteeism in school is very alarming. Students who went to
school for some months make absences for any reason before the completion of a year level or
before graduation. This phenomenon often begins with student’s tardiness which would
eventually cause the students to make absences from the class and eventually stop studying.
(Conception, L. 2006)
The aim of the study is to determine the causes of absenteeism in class. The study will
provide data and information regarding the student’s absenteeism and the factors that cause
the problems. This information will provide insights for teachers and administrators as to the
profile of school absenteeism based on the different variables included in the study. Knowing
these can help in planning measures to cope up the problem of school absenteeism. It will focus
on drafting intervention and policies toward reducing the absenteeism problems in school as
intended to guide the teachers. (Gloria, Ricardo T. 2007).
Based on data gathered, some of the students incurred absences during TLE classes.
When the student acquired 3 consecutive absences, it is necessary to conduct home visitation
in order to encourage them to come back to school. Mostly, if students attendance are not being
monitored they tend to stop in going back to school, these students needed to have attention
from the teachers.

The teachers being the front liners are influential not only in the school experiences of
the learners, but also their whole life, are responsible for the holding power in school. We come
up to, one of the best interventions is to have intensive home visitation for those students who
have habitual absences.

Although the school cannot solve poverty, this study will propose certain tool within the
means of the school teachers to address the absenteeism problem squarely. The teacher hope
that the result of this study can guide school teachers to become aware of their role in the
formulation of policies and thrust in reducing the incidence of absenteeism.
