Be Prepared - Lightning Safety Week 6/24
Thankfully, this country's forefa-
thers took it upon themselves to
make some important discov-
eries so that we do not have to.
For example, we no longer need
to run around with a kite and a
key to learn about the power of
lightning strikes. Even knowing
this we s ll have countless "fore"
fathers running around tes ng
the electrical connec vity and
harnessing energy using alumi-
num rods they wave above their
heads during strikes. Anyways, I
digress....
The truth is, the chance of you
being struck by lightning are
about 1 in 500,000. Even with
those odds, the risk to your-
self, your loved ones and your
home is real. The CDC has laid
out some ps for helping you
stay safe indoors and out during
a lightning storm. With the
weather changing I can’t think of
a be er me than storm season
to help lay out some of these
important facts. I will also be
throwing in some ps and tricks
to try if your A/C goes out a er
a storm.
According to the CDC:
Safety precau ons outdoors
• If the weather forecast calls
for thunderstorms, postpone
your trip or ac vity.
• Remember: When thunder
roars, go indoors. Find a
safe, enclosed shelter.
• The main lightning safety
guide is the 30-30 rule
• A er you see lightning, start
coun ng to 30. If you hear

least 30 minutes

of thunder.
• If no shelter is
available, crouch
low, with as
li le of your body
touching the
ground as possible. Light-
ning causes electric currents
along the top of the ground
that can be deadly over 100
feet away.
• Stay away from concrete
floors or walls. Lightning can
travel through any metal
wires or bars in concrete
walls or flooring.
• Although you should
move into a non-concrete
structure if possible, being
indoors does not automa -
cally protect you from light-
ning. In fact, about one-third
of lightning-strike injuries
occur indoors.
Safety precau ons indoors
• Avoid water during a thun-
derstorm. Lightning can
travel through plumbing.
• Avoid electronic equipment
of all types. Lightning can
travel through electrical sys-
tems and radio and televi-
sion recep on systems.
• Avoid corded phones.
However, cordless or cellular
phones are safe to use
during a storm.
• Avoid concrete floors and
walls.

• Lightning strikes may be
rare, but they s ll happen
and the risk of serious injury
or death is severe. So take
thunderstorms seriously.
• Learn and follow these safe-
ty rules to keep yourself safe
from lightning.

Should your air condi oning stop
suddenly during or a er a storm
it is important to check a few
things yourself to help avoid the
need for a service call. Here is
what we suggest:
• Turn the system from "Cool"
to "Off" and then back to
"Cool" to try a thermostat
reset.
• Check the switch on the side
of the furnace, you can give
that a quick switch "Off" and
then back to "On".
• Check the thermostat has
fresh ba eries.
• Reset the breaker for the
air condi oner in the circuit
panel. It is usually a large
30 , 40, or 50 amp two-pole
breaker.
• Otherwise: do not panic and
give us a call!

Celebrate Aquarium Month!

In honor of National Aquari-
um Month, we thought it only
fitting to share what we found
were the 10 best aquariums
to visit in this country. So,
if you happen to be out and
about this summer and need
an aquarium to visit why not
check out one of these? They
are a perfect way for you land
lubbers to enjoy the ocean we
love to dive in!
1. Georgia Aquarium
With 550,000 square feet and
8 million gallons of water, this
holds the title of the largest
aquarium in the world. Thou-
sands of species of fish including
rays, sharks, whales and dolphins.
Open 365 days a year!
2. Monterey Bay Aquarium
Famous for its marine life ed-
ucation and conservation. This
aquarium is fun, informative,
and engaging. With 500 species
of marine life and 45 interactive
exhibits, you are bound to be
entertained.
3. National Aquarium
There are over a dozen exhibits
and more than 600 species to
watch and learn about. There is
a rooftop rainforest that includes
exotic birds and other tree-dwell-
ing critters. There are over 1.5
million visitors every year.
4. SHEDD AQUARIUM
Chicago made the list! The Shedd
is a leader in conservation efforts
and one of the oldest aquariums,
built in 1930. Beside the 32,000
critters, the architecture is a
standout and a Chicago land-
mark.
5. Audubon Aquarium of
America
On the smaller side of aquari-
ums, but a staple in the Big Easy.
There is a Caribbean reef exhibit
you can view while traveling in a
walk-through tunnel. It is breath-
taking! This aquarium is a crucial
stakeholder in environmental
policy and helped the community
after the oil spill in the Gulf of
Mexico.
6. Seattle Aquarium
A large leader in
community out-
reach. This aquar-
ium has gotten rid
of all exhibit signs
and invested in
guides and extra
staff to engage
visitors and teach
about the facility
and the animals
inside. They also have volunteers
that patrol the beaches along
the coast and offer educational
interactions. This out-of-the-box
approach will provide you with a
unique experience.
7. Oregon Coast Aquarium
Looking for very kid friendly
and affordable? This aquarium is
listed as #9 on the parents.com
list of best aquariums for kids.
Admission is only $12-$20 with
access to the outdoor component
as well.
8. Aquarium of the Pacific
The aquarium prides itself on
balancing community program-
ming with contributing to global
research on ocean health. There
is a shark lagoon and hands-on
exhibits for kids, and space for
scholarly guest lectures.
9. Ripley’s Aquarium of the
Smokies
10,000 creatures and 350 different
species this is one of the largest
aquariums on our list. There is
a lot of community engagement
and creative programming. For
an additional fee you can pet a
penguin, paint with a penguin, or
take a behind the scenes tour.
10. Florida Aquarium
Home to over 20,000 aquat-
ic plants and animals with 9
different exhibits. The Coral Reef
exhibit offers panoramic views
and allows certified divers to dive
around with the sharks.

Bacon Wrapped Asparagus Bites 1st- 3rd @ Mets

Summer is here which means barbecues, outdoor parties, and time spent with close friends and families. What
a better way to bring people together than through food?! What makes food better, you ask? BACON. Bacon 5th - 7th vs Phillies
Asparagus Bites are a family favorite and an easy side dish or appetizer to pop into the oven. 8th - 10th vs Pirates

Ingredients for Dressing: 11th - 13th @ Brewers

 6 slices bacon, cut into thirds 15th - 17th @ Cardinals
 5 oz. cream cheese, softened to room

Directions:
 Preheat oven to 400 degrees, and line 1 medium baking sheet with parchment paper.

Hey everyone, Murphy here
for the latest edition of
our famous Dog's blog. I
hope this edition finds you
well and your summer off
to a great start. I know
mine sure is. With my Mom
and human brothers off
for the summer I am able
to get plenty of attention
whether I go to work, or
stay home for the day.
It has been great getting
to stay home more of-
ten during the week for
a break. My parents think
it is just so I can sleep and
not have to scare away all
the solicitors at work. No,
the real reason is because
I am on to that fox that
has been using my back yard
as his or her personal cut
through. And sometimes I
even think they are using
it as their bathroom. I will
not have any of that. Rest
assured that I keep the
family alerted when they
come strolling through. I
also do my best to try and
catch it when I do cross its’
path. We are about the
same speed so they better
not catch me at the wrong
time.
