The passage of PD 442 in 1974 established the Labor Code of the Philippines and marked the beginning of modern occupational safety and health (OSH) legislations in the country. Over the following decades, numerous laws, acts, and policies were instituted to strengthen OSH, including the creation of the Occupational Safety and Health Center in 1988 as the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. OSH legislations and regulations have since been continually revised and improved through tripartite collaboration between government, employers, and workers to better protect worker health and safety.
