    There is one type of major scale that follows the key signature ascending and descending with the formula W W H W W W H. There are three types of minor scales: natural minor follows the key signature with the formula W H W W H W W, harmonic minor raises the 7th note with the formula W H W W H WH H, and melodic minor raises the 6th and 7th notes ascending and uses the natural minor formula descending. W represents a whole step and H represents a half step.
