Professional English

English is a language originated from England and written in

Latin alphabets, it is the official language of more than 60 countries
including the most developed regions like the United States of
America, which made it take place in a lot of different subjects such as
science, law, and history. One of the main topics English is widely
used in, is the scientific professional world, as most of the latest
researches and novels are written in English. In this essay we are
going to discuss some application fields of professional English, we
will begin by talking about numbers and calculation followed by
energy and end with size, weight and mass.

First, Numbers and calculations are one of the basic scientific

skills as they are used in our everyday life, so it is vital to be able to
express elementary operations and numbers fluently and efficiently,
for example If you want to explain or understand the Pythagorean
theorem, which states that the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the
square root of the sum of the other sides in a right triangle, so a math
teacher should be able to articulate correctly, furthermore in the
accounting fields, an economist is capable of using operations, for
example : 3-7+10 is pronounced three minus seven plus ten and it’s
equal to six.

Moreover, Energy is one of the most complicated branches of

science, it has always been the interest of Humans since it was and
still is the only way to make machines work, there are a lot of energy
forms like electric energy, solar energy, mechanical energy and
chemical energy, professional English can be used in lectures and
engineers meetings, for instance to explain the process of making
mechanical energy, you need to state that electrical energy is
converted to mechanical energy through a motor but it can never be
fully transformed as a part of it is wasted in form of heat, this part can
vary with the motor’s efficiency.

Finally, we will talk about weight and mass, two terms that are
often confused in our everyday life, which can cause problems in the
scientific world. Here we can clearly see the importance of a
professional language, because it makes the idea more precise and
confusion less likely to happen, in science mass and weight have two
completely different meanings, for example an object can have an
immense mass but still weightless in space because of the weakness of
the gravitational field. Furthermore, a massive object doesn’t
necessarily mean that it’s big in terms of volume for the reason that
mass is dependent of density and not the volume.

In conclusion professional English is used for a simple reason,

to express ideas more precisely in order to prevent any kind of
misunderstanding that can have catastrophic consequences especially
in the scientific fields.
