EE SECTION WEAPONS HANDLING SAFETY RULES 1. TREAT EVERY WEAPON AS IF IT WERE LOADED. 2. NEVER POINT A WEAPON AT ANYTHING YOU DO NOT INTEND TO SHOOT. 3. KEEP YOUR FINGER STRAIGHT AND OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO FIRE. 4. KEEP THE WEAPON ON SAFE UNTIL YOU INTEND TO FIRE. WEAPONS CARRIES TACTICAL CARRY - No immediate threat ALERT - Contact likely (probable) WEAPONS CONDITIONS CONDITION 1: Magazine inserted, round in chamber, bolt forward, safety on, ejection port cover closed CONDITION 2: Not applicable to M16A2 rifle. CONDITION 3: Magazine inserted, chamber empty, bolt forward, safety on, ejection port cover closed. CONDITION 4: Magazine removed, chamber empty, bolt forward, safety on, ejection port cover closed. WEAPONS COMMANDS "LOAD" - Takes the weapon from Condition 4 to Condition 3. "MAKE READY" - Takes the weapon from Condition 3 to Condition 1 “FIRE"- Engage target(s) “CEASE FIRE" - Stop target engagement. “UNLOAD" - Takes the weapon from any condition to Condition 4. "UNLOAD, SHOW CLEAR" - Requires a second individual to inspect the weapon before the weapon is placed into Condition 4. LOAD On the command "Load," perform the following steps to take the rifle from Condition 4 to Condition 3: 1 Ensure the rifle is on safe. 2, Withdraw a magazine from the magazine pouch. 3 Observe the magazine to ensure it is filled. 4. Fully insert the magazine into the magazine well and tug downward on the magazine to ensure it is seated. 5. Fasten the magazine pouch. MAKE READY On the command "Make Ready," perform the following steps to take the rifle from Condition 3 to Condition I: 1, Pull the charging handle to the rear and release it 2. Conduct a chamber check. 3. Close the ejection port cover. 4, Check the sights (for proper sight setting). 2 me SEE RE RS ER SNA UNLOAD On the command "Unload," perform the following steps to take the rifle from any condition to Condition 4: 2 Ensure the rifle is on sate. Remove the magazine and retain iLon your person. Pull the charging handle to the rear, catch the round, and lock the bolt to the rear. Put the rifle on safe now if it would not go on safe earlier. Visually inspect the chamber; no amanition is present, Depress the bolt catch and observe the boli moving forward on an empty chamber. Close the ejection port cover. Check the sights (for BZO sight setting). Return ejected round to the magazine: return the magazine to the magazine pouch. UNLOAD, SHOW CLEAR Use the command "Unload, Show Clear" if'a secondary inspection is required. On the command "Unload, Show Clear," perform the following steps to take the rifle from any condition to Condition 4: 1 Ensure the rifle is on safe. 2. Remove the magazine and retain it on your person 3. Pull the charging handle to the rear, catch the round, and lock the bolt to the rear. 4, Put the rifle on safe now if it would not go on safe earlier 5. Visually inspect the chamber; no amunition is present. 6, Have a second party inspect the rifle. 7. After receiving the rifle is clear, depress the bolt catch and observe the bolt moving forward on an empty chamber. 8. Close the ejection port cover. 9. Visually or physically observe the ejection port to identify the problem. The steps taken to clear the weapon are based on observation of the following three indicators: INDICATOR ACTION Bolt is forward or ejection port cover is closed. Tap, rack, bang Bolt is locked to the rear. Conduct a dry reload. Brass is obstructing chamber area, Remove magazine. Lock bolt to rear. (Usually indicates double feed or failure to eject.) Shake rounds out, Conduet a reload. SECTION 2: PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE FUNCTION CHECK Perform a function check to ensure the rifle is operational Ensure rifle is in Condition 4. . Pull charging handle to rear and release, Place selector lever on SAFE, Pull trigger. Hammer should not fall. . Place selector lever on SEMI. Pull trigger and hold to rear. Hammer should fall. Hammer should fall. Pull charging handle to rear three times and release. Release trigger and pull again. Hammer should fall. . Pull charging handle to rear and release. Place selector lever on SAFE. USER SERVICEABILITY INSPECTION Perform a user serviceability inspection before beginning live fire to ensure the weapon is in an acceptable operating condition, ‘This inspection does not replac or pre-fire inspection conducted by a qualified armorer. Speci WARNING the limited technical inspection (LT1) ¢ inspection areas are as follows: Place weapon in Condition 4. Conduct a function check. Compensator is tight. Barrel is tight. Front sight post is straight. Front sight post is adjustable. Handguards are serviceable. Barrel is clear of obstructions. Rear sight elevation and windage knobs are adjustable and have distinct clicks. Stock is tight. ‘Weapon is properly lubricated. Magazines arc serviceable SECTION 3: FU DAMENTALS OF MARKSMANSHIP AIMING CORRECT SIGHT ALIGNMENT CORRECT SIGHT PICTURE The tip of the front sight post centered both The placement of the tip of the front sight post vertically and horizontally in the rear sight in the center of the target while maintaining aperture. correct sight alignment SR RE BREATH CONTROL SLOW FIRE 1. Exhale and stop breathing at NRP. . Fire the shot during NRP. wR wD RAPID FIRE 1. Stop breathing at NRP. 2. Fire the shot during NRP. 3. Repeat until all 5 shots are fired. NR A RSS EEE : TRIGGER CONTROL TRIGGER CONTROL Trigger control is the skillful manipulation of the trigger that causes the rifle to fire without disturbing sight alignment or sight picture. Uninterrupted Trigger Control - After the initial slack of the trigger is taken up, the trigger is pulled with a single, smooth motion straight to the rear with no interruption. Interrupted Trigger Control - After the initial slack is taken up, the trigger is moved to the rear unless an error is detected in the aiming process. When this occurs, rearward motion is stopped until sight picture is achieved. Then the rearward motion continues until the shot breaks. A weak shooting position will not withstand the repeated recoil of a rifle during a string of rapid fire or buffeting from wind. To attain a correct shooting position, the bones of the body must support as much of the rifle's weight as possible. MUSCULAR Muscular relaxation helps to hold steady and increase the accuracy of aiming. RELAXATION Muscular relaxation also allows the use of maximum bone support to create a minimum arc of movement and consistency in resistance to recoil. NATURAL Natural point of aim is the point at which the rifle sights settle when in a firing POINT OF AIM position.
