Introduction:-

The aim of this report is to describe a job I am passionate about which is a Stock Record Clerk

within BAS company and collect a sufficient amount of information. The information will be gathered

through conducting an interview with a person who works at BAS as a Stock Record Clerk and support

the interview information with a bit of research, as well as, this report will include a reflection about my

suitability to this job and a PEST analysis of the logistics industry in Bahrain.

Interview:-

At the beginning, the interviewee was Mr. Hussain Karimi, who works as a Stock Record Clerk at BAS

Company. He has an experience for two years in this field. The interview took place in the 28th of March.

Firstly, in relation to the qualifications needed for the job Mr. Hussain Karimi said, it is not important

to have a Bachelor nor a Master degree to work as a Stock Record Clerk but it is essential to have a High

School Diploma and it is preferable to have a high educational degree in order to give the employee the

opportunity to get an advancement to a higher position. Moreover, it is acceptable to hire employees

without previous experiences. However, having an experience will benefit the employee by knowing the

nature of work.

Moreover, in relation to the nature of work, the Stock Record Clerks are responsible for receiving

items, posting requisitions, and checking the inventory. Once the Stock Clerks receives items, they

should check the goods quantity with the quantity mentioned in the delivery notes. Regarding inventory

check, the employee is responsible for checking the availability of a certain product. What is more, BAS

Company is developing through hiring a sufficient number of employees and, providing new services to

the airport.

According to Mr. Karimi, the skills required for the job are problem solving and IT skills. Regarding

the problem solving skill, in some cases, the Stock Clerks receives items with less quantity than what is

mentioned in the delivery note. In this case, they are responsible for contacting the purchasing

department to find the missing quantity. Another skill is needed which is the IT skill. Part of the Clerks

job is to use the Orian Program to check the purchase order, check the goods quantity, and to post

requisitions. Furthermore, writing skill is essential because the Stock Clerks have the responsibility to

write reports. Additionally, Concerning to the values needed for this job, punctuality is important

because the Stock Clerks are the base of the warehouse as they are responsible for receiving, storing,

checking the items quantities and prices carefully to avoid any mistakes.

Furthermore, Mr. Karimi stated, BAS Company is aiding the country through providing integrated

services to Bahrain International Airport. Regarding the ground operations, BAS provides an inclusive

amount of services to the airlines including handling passengers, aircraft ramp handling, load control,

and airport operations. Moreover, in relation to the cargo, BAS supplies the airport warehouse with a

high-tech racking system, forklifts as well as ULD’s specialized to handle temperature-sensitive products.

Additionally, According to Mr. Karimi, there are some strengths and limitations about working as a

Stock Record Clerk at BAS. The strength about this job is that the Stock Clerk is related and connected

with the purchasing department which will help the employee in making a huge progress toward the

position and the department. Whereas, the weakness of working as a Stock Record Clerk within BAS is

that the employee has several duties and responsibilities in the department.

Finally, Mr. Karimi advices me to take a Master Degree and attend extra training courses to reach a

higher position within the company.

Research:-

In reference to the industry, the Logistics industry is booming in Bahrain. Due to the fact that,

Bahrain has a strategic location as it is located in the heart of the gulf region which makes it the

Northern Gulf logistics hub (Anonymous, Bahrain position, n.d). Moreover, recently, Bahrain has

liberalized the transport and logistics market by allowing any logistics companies, retailers, and logistics

services providers to settle in the Kingdom without any restrictions (Trade Arabia, 2016). To support the

liberalization, Bahrain established the “Bahrain Logistics Zone” which will offer the quickest access to

the GCC markets. Furthermore, the advantages of the BLZ are, it will offer the foreign companies a 100%

ownership, provides multimodal access to the GCC markets either by land, sea or air, and end-to-end

seamless services (MTT, n.d).

Moreover, in respect to the Stock Record Clerks duties and responsibilities, they are responsible

for moving the received items to the warehouse shelves, keeping record of the received and dispatched

goods as well they inspect for damaged products. Therefore, regarding the skills, orienting details is

important as the Stock Clerks will need inspect for defective items. Additionally, basic mathematics skills

are crucial because the Stock Clerks are responsible for calculating the shipping costs as well as posting

requisitions (Anonymous, Position description, n.d).

Analysis:-

PEST analysis will be conducted to evaluate the logistics industry in Bahrain and GCC. In

reference to the political factors, Bahrain and the United states signed a free trade agreement to

facilitate trade between both countries and it created employment opportunities for Bahrainis as it will

stimulate the Bahrain economic growth (MOI, n.d). However, recently, a political crisis in the GCC

showed up which is the Qatar crisis where all the GCC members blocked on Qatar (Fathollah-Nejad,

2017).

Moreover, concerning the technological factors, customs staffs within the air cargo section at

Bahrain airport are responsible for implementing X-Ray scanning equipment for custom clearance

purposes for imports, exports, and moving cargo between bonded warehouses (MOI, n.d). In reference

to Khalifa Bin Salman port, the port is equipped with four Panamax cranes and twelve Rubber Tyred

Gantry cranes to handle containers (Ahmed, n.d).

Furthermore, in respect to the economic factor, global manufactures started to set up their

headquarters in Mena region as it linked transportation. Moreover, Mena started to create free-zones

to facilitate trade in the upcoming years (Dash, 2017).

Additionally, regarding the social factor, Agility in Bahrain increased the workforce up to 25%

(MOIC, 2017). In reference to the education, Bahrain polytechnic provide a bachelor degree in Logistics

management to raise the awareness about the different transportation systems, global supply chain,

and industries such as maritime, aviation, and road. Also, the institution gave the opportunity to its

students to have international recognized qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and

Transport (CILT) (Bahrain Polytechnic, n.d).

5|Page
Haddeel Ali 201400606 Class 07

Ultimately, the logistics industry in Bahrain is developing as the country has the Bahrain-US FTA

to facilitate trade, developed equipment in the maritime and aviation industries, employment

opportunities within Agility, and good configuration to Bahrain polytechnic logistics students. On the

other hand, regarding the economy of the GCC, is currently booming and it will keep on developing in

the next years as the countries facilitate trade by implementing free-zones and global companies are

locating their headquarter in the GCC. On the other hand, the GCC have political issues recently with

Qatar and it might continue till the future.

Reflection:-

Based upon the interview, the Stock Record Clerk job requires certain qualifications, values, and

skills. The qualifications needed for the job suites mine as I have a high school diploma, the CILT

certificate, and I am about to complete my logistics management degree.

Concerning my skills, I have information and resources skills. It is required for the stock record

clerk to have information skill as it is essential to share information between the warehouse department

and the purchasing department in relation to the received

items quantities, requesting orders for stock-outs items, and if

the stock clerks did not receive the delivery notes, they

inform the purchasing department. Regarding my resources

skill, it is important to have this skill to work as a stock record

clerk, because part of the job is to store, distribute, and

receive important documents such as the delivery note as an evidence of receiving a certain items.

6|Page
Haddeel Ali 201400606 Class 07

According to the value test, my value is structure, as I like to work with fix routine. Working as a

stock record clerk at BAS, will have a clarified tasks such as receiving and storing items, posting

requisitions, and checking the items quantities, which makes it suitable with my value.

Furthermore, the advantages of working in this industry is that it suits my value, as I prefer

working with fix tasks which makes it an advantage to work as a stock record clerk as they have specific

tasks to conduct. What is more, regarding the skills, I have the right skills to work in the industry as I can

share information and complete the tasks effectively through storing, receiving, and distributing items.

Moreover, regarding the interview, Mr. Karimi stated that the advantage of working in this position will

benefit the employee to get advancement in the job. However, according to the interview with Mr.

Hussain Karimi, the disadvantage of working at BAS is the stock record clerk carries several duties and

responsibilities which make it difficult to cope with all of them.

Finally, I am still interested and passionate about having this job as it suits my skills, values,

personality, and qualifications.
