1
Before we start there is basic information you
need to remember.
The image below is the main screen of ISIS and is
divided into 4 parts: General Toolbar, Design
Platform, Component Toolbar and Simulation
Icons.

2
General Toolbar contains all the basic
commands like print and save.

Design Platform
This is were you will put all your components
and draw your tracks.

Component Toolbar
Here you will select all your components,
sources(VCC,Ground,AC,DC) and measuring
components(oscilloscope,voltmeter etc.)

Simulation Icons
Icons to start, step, pause and stop your
simulation.
3
Designing a circuit
Selecting a component.
• Click on the “Component Mode”
icon in the “Component Toolbar”.

• Then click on the “P”

• A new window “Pick Devices”

will pop up.

• Type the name of your

component in the open space in
the top left corner.

4
• As you type the components name you will see there will be results
in the main screen.

Component Pin Layout

(see ARES tutorial)

• When the results shows the desired component, double click on the
result to add it to the list, after the component is placed in the list
you may search for more components. When finished click on “OK”.

Back at the main screen you will note the

components you have selected will
appear in the “DEVICES LIST”.

5
Placing a Component
• After you have selected your components
and added it to the “DEVICES LIST”, you can
place the component on the “Design
Platform”.

• Left click on the component you would like to

place.

• After clicking on the component take your

pointer to the “Design Platform” and left click
again. You will see the component will be in
a pink colour.

• Drag the component to were you

would like to place it and left click.

6
Connecting Components
• After you placed your components, you can connect your tracks.

• Move your pointer over the edge

of the component, you will see
a red square will appear and click.

• Drag your track to the next component, if you

see the red square again click again.

• Follow the same steps and connect all your comopnents.

7
Editing Components
• Right click on the component and select “Edit Properties”

• New window “Edit Component” will pop up.

Component Name Component Value

• Here you can change the components

PCB Package value.
(see ARES tutorial)

• If you want to use prefixes just add the letter to your value.
Example:
100 μF Capacitor =>100uF.
10 nF Capacitor =>10nF.
1200Ω Resistor =>1k2.
1 000 000Ω Resistor => 1M. 8
