It is used ironically in order to show the disproportionate value which is given to

something in comparison with its real value = “Big deal”.

Τα ΄κανε ρόιδο. (Somebody has done it “pomegranate”).

Somebody created a mess.

Δε χαρίζω κάστανα. (I do not give away chestnuts).

I don t make favors.

Τον έπιασαν στα πράσα. (They caught him by the leeks).

They caught him red handed.
Από την πόλη έρχομαι και στην κορφή κανέλα. (From the city I come and on the top,
cinnamon).
Perhaps the most characteristic expression in order to describe the clutter / something
(conversation situation etc) that makes no sense.

Να μου λείπει το βύσσινο. (Better to miss the cherry).

A typical expression which makes it clear that we don’t want something which is offered
or suggested to us.

Είναι το κερασάκι στην τούρτα. (Somebody/ something is the cherry on the cake).
Somebody/ something is the icing on the cake.

Να λες τα σύκα σύκα και τη σκάφη σκάφη. (We call the figs, figs and the trough,
trough).
I speak with courage without trying to present something better than it is

Τα έκανε σαλάτα. (Somebody has made it “salad”).

Somebody created a mess.
