Explanation
Students will gauge their knowledge and
preconceptions about what a society is by
answering free-response questions at the start of
the unit.
Students will create flashcards that have the names
of certain literary elements/devices on one side and
the other the definition. This assignment will be
completed via Quizlet. Students will then quiz each
other.
Each week, reading will be assigned as homework.
At some point each week, I will give a quiz
regarding that reading. Questions will be multiple
choice and free-response.
Students will receive a worksheet that has the
literary terms and definitions mixed up; students
must match the correct term to the correct
definition. Possible pop quiz might follow.
Death is a sensitive subject and it appears quite a
bit in ​Lord of the Flies. Students, after reading the
pertinent passages, will write down their reactions.
In a student-led discussion, students will then voice
also draw upon their own experiences with death.
At the end of the unit, all students will be assigned
into groups and given a chapter to thoroughly
summarize and analyze in regards to the literary
terms/devices learned in the beginning of the unit.
Each student will speak in the group presentation;
work should be divided evenly.
The final exam includes an essay response section
that tests students on the knowledge acquired
during the unit both in terms of their analytical and
writing skills, but also in terms of their reading
comprehension.
