Enhancing basic skills by games


educational programme

1. Introduction
Games play a significant role in the learning process. In a a safe environment
students can colaborate to solve problems, learn new and create things having
fun at the same time. They also introduce a competitiveness aspect what
makes the process of learning more interesting.
Games can be used to help students to acquire skills on different subjects,
reinforce knowledge, and realize important educational goals. All kinds of
games (outdoor, computer, video, language, board, etc.) can be used as an
efficient learning/teaching tool.

2. Aims of the programme


Main aims:
 to stimulate and activate students with fewer opportunities through
their access to high quality activities
 to reinforce group work focused on cooperation between students
 to know cultures, traditions, languages, geographical features of other
countries
 to prevent drop-out and promote participation of disadvantaged groups
in society-to acquire skills in logical and creative thinking, ICT, foreign
language learning and teaching, drama, crafts, problem solving
 to increase the students’ motivation and self esteem
3. Specific aims:
 to meet the need of the student for social contact with his or her peers,
 to foster the attitude of the student to exploring and learning through
play,
 to develop purposefully, systematically and in a creative atmosphere the
student’s personalityto have respect for different socio-cultural and
socio-economic background of the child personality
 to prepare for life in a free society, in the spirit of understanding,
freedom from prejudice, tolerance, gender equality and friendship
among nations, national and ethnic groups, and the churches and
religious communities,
 to learn to develop and cultivate one’s own personality, prepare for
lifelong learning,
 to learn to cooperate in a group, a collective and assume appropriate
responsibility,
 to learn to protect one’s health

4. Content (methods and materials)


4.1. Drama (games and exercises) -teaching languages (vocabulary and
communication), self-expressing and team-building, coordination)
4.2. Logic (strategy games)- using games in maths and ICT teaching, improving
logical thinking skills, creating games
4.3. Board and computer games- creating board games (crafts and ICT tools),
using games in teaching
4.4. Traditional playground games- exchanging ideas, games, practical
workshop
4.5. Problem-solving games- creating games, practising games

5. Subjects

languages, maths, science, phisical education, extra classes

6. Instructions
6.1.The programme can be used for students of different age as it gives a wide
range of possibilities, it is easy to addjust.
6.2. The program assumes the use of games at least twice a month throughout
the school year.
6.3. The games will be used as an educational method during obligatory
classes.
6.4. The games should be matched to the students' and teachers' needs and
interests.
