The shape of the crack is not that standard. The cracking in the concrete not forming 45o as we expected
that the concrete is more likely to fracture due to shear stress. During this experiment, the concrete is
cracked and split into half in the middle. Therefore we can conclude that the compressive strength of
the concrete is still under our expectation

The illustration beside is explaining the difference between crack

theoretically (left) and the crack that actually obtained in the
experiment (right).

This kind of crack applies for both sample, so it is the result is quite
accurate.

Since the crack is formed at the middle of 1/3 span of the

beam, then the formula used to calculate the flextural
strength of the beam is
𝑃𝐿
𝜎=
𝑏𝑑2

By using the formula, the flextural strength obtained is 52.24.

The crack formed is in the middle of the span as expected, thus the result is easier to calculate and more
standard.
