The Service Life Extension Program (SLEP). SLEP efforts

have proven to be a great value for the U.S. Department
of Defense (DoD) by providing an economic way to meet
mission requirements by restoring life to a machine.

A MACHINE SECOND LIFE WILL…

- Improve mission readiness
- Rebuild to zero hours
- Provide fleet modernization at a percentage of a new
machine replacement cost
- Certify a new machine warranty, supported worldwide

TWO-PHASE PROCESS INCLUDES:

Caterpillar Services RESET

RESET Program. Caterpillar has a well-established program
to bring selected machines to readiness standards. The
RESET program does as the name suggests, “re-setting”
construction equipment to pre-deployment condition for a
fixed price.

CORE STEPS INCLUDE:

- Technical inspection
- Preventative maintenance, including filters and fluids
- A machine top coat with CARC paint

RESET also has an Additional Work Effort phase, which

includes repairing items identified during the inspection.

Machine RESET is completed within 60 days of approval

and is performed at local Cat® Dealers.

Caterpillar Services SIMULATION

Simulators – Virtual Trainers. Simulator training provides
an avenue for students to gain familiarization and
understanding of machine controls, pedals and general
handling before training on actual machines. Experienced
operators can also benefit from simulator training by
refining their skills to increase production levels in
the field.
These virtual trainers provide a variety of training
exercises designed to address each of the skills
associated with operating actual machines under different
work environments and weather conditions. The simulated
environment affords a safe place to learn and make
mistakes without burning fuel or having environmental
impact on the job site, machines or personnel.

Cat Command for Dozing. For over a decade, Caterpillar
has invested significantly in the areas of remote control
and autonomous systems. This research is in direct
response to our customer’s focus on removing operators
from dangerous areas and work sites. Whether controlling
a D10 Bulldozer in a coal pile or operating a Skid Steer
Loader to move a vehicle wired with a suspected bomb,
there is no disputing the value of remote control. With an
integrated Remote Control System, equipment owners
can work in hazardous environments, meet regulatory
requirements and reduce liability, while protecting their
operators from any potential threats.

Caterpillar Services CREW PROTECTION KIT (CPK)

Crew Protection Kit (CPK). The armored CPK was
developed with the Soldier’s protection and survivability
in mind. The armored cab provides the operator with
360° protection, including the roof and the floor, from
small arms and fragmentation threats. An emergency
egress hatch is provided through the rear window, and is
accessible from both the inside by the operator and from
the outside by rescue personnel. The transparent armor
provides excellent operator visibility of the machine and
surrounding work area. These features of the CPK allow
the soldier to complete military tasks safely and effectively.

Every armored machine provided to the U.S. Department

of Defense (DoD) has an A-Kit. The A-Kit consists of
permanent mounting provisions along with any vehicle
modifications required to accept the armor package
(e.g., armored floor panel, suspension changes due to
the increased weight of the armor kit, etc.).

Modular Crew Protection Kits Provide Mission Flexibility
The U.S. DoD has the option to order a B-Kit/C-Kit
depending on the Caterpillar® model. The B-Kit consists of
multiple components that need to be individually installed
on the dozer. The C-Kit consists of a complete
interchangeable armored cab.
B-Kit/C-Kits come packaged in a weatherproof shipping
container for easy storage and transportation. When the
B-Kit/C-Kit is installed, all commercial components that
are removed from the machine can be stored in the
same container.
Modular Crew Protection Kits ensure that Soldiers, Airmen,
SEABEES, and Marines are protected while they work. They
reduce logistical burden and provide U.S. fighting men and
women the flexibility to excel in all mission environments.
