TASK 2

1 Some language are increasingly spoken in different countries, while the usage of others is rapidly
declining. Is this positive or a negative development?

Nowadays, international languages are rapidly growing globally, but using of the local ones is going to be
deteriorated dramatically. Although some may agree that this has been more beneficial to societies, I personally
think that its drawbacks have surpassed the advantages.

On the one hand, talking with some specific dialect has had two important benefits. The first one is that trading
has become far easier. Businesspersons knowing English language are statistically more prosperous in their
business because they can communicate better with their partners than the one not knowing English. The owners
of many multinational corporations are originally from English countries or live there, including Microsoft,
Google in the USA or British Petroleum in the UK. As a result, these traders can have a better connection to
their partners, becoming more successful in their business. Moreover, immigrants can have more comfortable
lifestyles abroad. For instance, an Iranian doctor, who is perfect in the English language, can have more
opportunity than the one less knowing it.

On the other hand, I personally believe that other dialects must not be forgotten, and I give the green light to
those supporting them. The most important reason behind it is that traditions will be loosed. Clearly, to recognise
each nation, knowing about their culture is extremely crucial, and the best device is learning its language. As a
prime example, many of Arabic historical transcripts, which show Arabs` history, would have been difficult to
be understood if they had been changed to other languages. Their culture would have gradually been replaced
with other words, and a cultural invasion would have occurred. In addition, domination of few languages can
reduce the rating success of those students talking in other languages. Obviously, developing country scholars
studying in developed countries have faced numerous challenges because of language; however, if they had
studied in their country, they would have become more successful graduates. In particular, a Persian engineer
who has moved to Canada is usually less prosperous than a Canadian one to sit a position in an English language
college.

In conclusion, although the domination of some languages has had several advantages, the importance of other
languages should not be neglected. I personally believe that protection of mother languages can raise the value
of nations` cultures and their prosperity in education.
2. Some people believe that school children should not be given homework by their teachers,
whereas others argue that homework plays an important role in the education of children. Discuss
both of these views and give your own opinion.

In the modern era, education have a very crucial role to play as it acts as a foundation for
country's future. Some people think that children should not be burdened by providing extra
work for home while others have an opinion that additional work will benefit the children
with their education. I am personally in the favor of latter viewpoint.
Homework can have many benefits. Firstly, it teaches a child to be more responsible
towards his or her studies. Children are forced to work independently away from the
environment of schools. This will encourage them to think individually and creatively in
correspondence to a particular task. The mathematical problems, for instance, motivates
the children to analyze and solve the problem on their own. Secondly, it promotes the time
management skills in children. To enjoy their leisure time, students have to manage time
efficiently in a way that their homework does not suffer. Thus, further improving
disciplinary qualities in a child.
On the other hand, when children are not given additional work, they can inculcate sports
in their daily routine. This can help them to improve their health. Moreover, after studying
for long hours in school, children may need some free time to relax and rejuvinate
themselves so as to start the next day refreshed. This will help them to concentrate more
and can improve their productivity.
In my opinion, children should be given extra work as to make them ready for their future
assignments and stress levels needed at university or later in the life. Otherwise, it may be
possible that children stop taking education seriously.
3. Some people say that leisure time is important for having a good life, While other believe that
money is important. Do you agree? Is there any other important factor for leading a good quality
life?

There has been much debate whether money noteworthy than leisure time, meanwhile I am
personally convinced that our free time is more valuable. However, there are several factors
should be considered to increase value of life.

Many people choose money due to some arguments. Firstly, it might possibly buy various
goods of human needs such as, clothes, foods, or housing. In other word, humans cannot
live without money. Secondly, public opinions see people from their possession. According
to researchers, a prosperous person is more be respected by others. It seems that affluence
is worthy in society.

On the other hand, to me, people request spare time because they are busy with job
activities. Nowadays, workers encounter a problem to manage their schedule. Even though
employee obtain much salary, they are still unsatisfied caused by long-hour for workings.
Moreover, it will be dangerous, if people do not take a rest. It might compromise their
psychology and bodies. In this case, money is not working.

Instead of money and leisure time, health and safety should be selected to improve quality
of life. To get healthy body, people have to spend much time in gyms or sport centre and
they must provide well-balance diet foods to support their nutrients. If they get sick,
medical staffs like doctors give treatment and medicine. Individuals may not enjoy their
life because of medical problems. It indicates that health is crucial for humans. Secondly,
caused by increasing crime level, people release that safety is a popular issue, recently. The
state-of-the-art news on television shows some violence occur and it is growing fast as a
result of unstabil economics and politics in the world. People search a way to make their
families be evaded by cruelty. A cooperation between police and residents has to be
strengthened , if people demand a peace in their life.

To sum up, I tend to feel that spare time is essential rather that money, while other
determinations should be accounted to gain better life.
4. It is inevitable that traditional cultures will be lost as technology develops. Technology and
traditional cultures are incompatible. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

Some people believe that technological developments lead to the loss of traditional
cultures. I partly agree with this assertion; while it may be true in the case of some
societies, others seem to be unaffected by technology and the modern world.
On the one hand, the advances in technology that have driven industrialisation in
developed countries have certainly contributed to the disappearance of traditional
ways of life. For example, in pre-industrial Britain, generations of families grew up
in the same small village communities. These communities had a strong sense of
identity, due to their shared customs and beliefs. However, developments in
transport, communications and manufacturing led to the dispersal of families and
village communities as people moved to the cities in search of work. Nowadays most
British villages are inhabited by commuters, many of whom do not know their
closest neighbours.
On the other hand, in some parts of the world traditional cultures still thrive. There
are tribes in the Amazon Rainforest, for example, that have been completely
untouched by the technological developments of the developed world. These tribal
communities continue to hunt and gather food from the forest, and traditional skills
are passed on to children by parents and elders. Other traditional cultures, such as
farming communities in parts of Africa, are embracing communications
technologies. Mobile phones give farmers access to information, from weather
predictions to market prices, which helps them to prosper and therefore supports
their culture.
In conclusion, many traditional ways of life have been lost as a result of advances in
technology, but other traditional communities have survived and even flourished .
5. People usually mix their private and professional life. What are the pros and cons of this?

One of the most conspicuous trend of today’s contemporary era is

maintaining work-life balance. It is important to know about an individual
strengths and weaknesses in their private and personal life. Although,
expertise believe combining work and home life can be beneficial, others
believe it can have negative impact. This essay will discuss, combinations
of work and private life gives people a better understanding of an
individual, and mixing professional and private life can be stressful.

Firstly, people’s behaviour is directly dependent on their social

background. Private life gives an insight into people’s stability level and
their ability to make profitable judgements. An individual’s real qualities
can be determined at home, and it’s generally believed, people carry
similar attitude at work. Such as, discipline, gratitude, organisation and
diversity acceptance. With such qualities, It becomes easier to trust a
person with high demanding positions. Thus, it can be said private life
highlights qualities in human.

Secondly, some people live two different life. There behaviour and
attitude varies from their actions, and such people are prone to make
mistakes. It is important to have social and work boundaries, as its
impossible to satisfy all aspects of life. Spending quality time with family
and friends is important. Similarly, work requires singular focus to
achieve success. Combing work and private life could be disastrous, as
both require special care. Therefore, it can be said blending work and
private life could be the recipe for disaster.

To conclude, this essay discussed why intermix of professional and

personal life can highlight qualities in an individual and consolidating
private and work life could result in failure. In my opinion, work should
not be synthesised with personal life.
