NEW BOOK BY KENNETH WAPNICK, Ph.D.

PARENTS AND CHILDREN

Our Most Difficult Classroom
The theme developed in this set of two books is what it means to be a right-minded parent and a right-minded
child. The former role involves being faithful to the changing function of parent, at the same time respecting the
child’s decision-making mind to choose its life experiences, and whether to perceive them through the eyes of the
ego or the Holy Spirit. We know we have attained spiritual maturity when we no longer think of our parents or
parental surrogates as authorities—on the level of content—but as brother and sister walking with us on the path that
leads us home. Thus, both forms of this primary relationship can, if we so choose, exemplify Jesus’ message of for-
giveness: not seeing another’s interests as separate from our own.
After a commentary on a special message from Jesus to William Thetford, the discussion is divided into four cat-
egories: Parents Rearing Children; Parents and Adult Children; The Adult Child; and Caring for Elderly Parents.

QUESTION & ANSWER SERVICE

Our Question and Answer Service (www.facimoutreach.org) has proven to be so popular that we have developed
a large backlog of questions awaiting answers. Therefore, for the time being, we are no longer accepting new ques-
tions. We will, however, continue the weekly answering of questions already received. We are deeply grateful to all
of you who have submitted questions, making this Web site possible.

EXCERPTS SERIES
Our latest series of excerpts is from our tape album “Our Gratitude to God,” a workshop presented by Kenneth in
1989 at our former location in New York. The theme is discussed in the context of our gratitude to God, Jesus, and
the Holy Spirit, and to each other. The many forms of our resistance to being grateful are considered, including our
ego’s resentment that God is the Creator, not itself. Our expressions of gratitude, therefore, help us undo this
original error. These excerpts can be found at the Foundation’s Web site at www.facim.org.

WEB SITE—www.facim.org
Browse our Web site, where you can purchase Foundation for A COURSE IN MIRACLES® publications at a 10% dis-

ACADEMY CLASSES
Faculty: Drs. Kenneth Wapnick, Rosemarie LoSasso, and Jeffrey Seibert
Times: 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

A-4 T HE E GO : S OLIPSISTIC S ILLINESS

Dates: April 15 – 17 Fee: $100.00 for entire program; $40.00 for each individual day.
A-4D1 April 15 Fee: $40.00 A-4D2 April 16 Fee: $40.00 A-4D3 April 17 Fee: $40.00
Solipsism is a philosophical term for the belief that the self is all we can ever know. It thus lends itself to the ego and its thought
system, which is “propaganda for itself ” (T-27.IV.5:3). Yet the same term can be turned around to describe the Holy Spirit’s Atone-
ment: the Self is all we can ever know. These classes, through readings, lecture, and discussion, will thus focus on the ego’s use of
the world and body to prove that the self is all there is, and the Holy Spirit’s use of the same world and body to lead us to our Self.

A-5 D EFENSELESSNESS : D OORMAT OR S ALVATION ?

Dates: May 20 – 22 Fee: $100.00 for entire program; $40.00 for each individual day.
A-5D1 May 20 Fee: $40.00 A-5D2 May 21 Fee: $40.00 A-5D3 May 22 Fee: $40.00
A common misconception among students of A Course in Miracles is that true forgiveness leads to a defenselessness that
makes us vulnerable to attack and disease, a virtual doormat for Hamlet’s “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.” With readings
supporting lecture and discussion, this class will compare and contrast the ego’s understanding of defenselessness with Jesus’ vision
of God’s forgiving and forgiven Son, whose mind has been healed of the pain and suffering that inevitably follow the decision for
guilt. While bodies can indeed remain vulnerable, our minds become invulnerable when they have been saved from the ego’s
thought system of separation, attack, and death.

A-6 C ORRECTING E RRORS

Dates: June 10 – 12 Fee: $100.00 for entire program; $40.00 for each individual day.
A-6D1 June 10 Fee: $40.00 A-6D2 June 11 Fee: $40.00 A-6D3 June 12 Fee: $40.00
It is one of the ego’s great temptations to have us make errors, or perceive others making them, and then attempt to correct
them. This magical sleight of hand not only makes real the error that is the ego, but also ensures that we will never direct our atten-
tion to the true error: the decision-making mind’s belief that the ego’s tale of separation and separate interests is the truth. And so
rather than correct the external errors of others or ourselves, we are asked by Jesus to correct our misperceptions of judgment and
attack. Through lecture, discussion, and readings, we shall examine how this correction is accomplished—the meaning of the
miracle or forgiveness.

A-7 “W HO P UNISHES THE B ODY I S I NSANE ”

Dates: July 15 – 17 Fee: $100.00 for entire program; $40.00 for each individual day.
A-7D1 July 15 Fee: $40.00 A-7D2 July 16 Fee: $40.00 A-7D3 July 17 Fee: $40.00
This statement from the text (T-28.VI.1:1) highlights the ego’s insanity. It first makes up an inner world of sin and guilt, and
then defends against it by making a body it tells us is the repository of the same sin and guilt. This justifies our attacking the
“enemy” in order to save it, never realizing that the “enemy” is neither the sinful body nor thought, but the decision-making mind
that believes in sin and punishment as atonement. Through lecture, discussion, and readings, these classes will present Jesus’ loving
approach to the body that corrects the ego’s hate-filled attacks on it.

A-8 “I F H E S PEAKS N OT OF C HRIST TO YOU ”

Dates: September 23 – 25 Fee: $100.00 for entire program; $40.00 for each individual day.
A-8D1 September 23 Fee: $40.00 A-8D2 September 24 Fee: $40.00 A-8D3 September 25 Fee: $40.00
Lecture, discussion, and readings will address this important line from the text: “If he speaks not of Christ to you, you spoke not
of Christ to him” (T-11.V.18:6). Since projection makes perception and perception is interpretation, the way we perceive another is
an interpretation based on how we see ourselves. Therefore, we are never justified in accusing another of not being Christlike, for
we but project guilt over our un-Christlike thoughts. Bodies indeed attack, but minds only express love or calls for it, which we see
when we choose Christ’s vision instead of the ego’s judgment.
