Supreme Court upholds Trump travel ban, rejects
discrimination claim
The 5-4 decision is the court’s first substantive ruling on a Trump administration policy.
The Supreme Court upheld President Donald Trump’s ban on travel
from several mostly Muslim countries, rejecting a challenge that it
discriminated against Muslims or exceeded his authority.
The 5-4 decision is the court’s first substantive ruling on a Trump
administration policy.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion, joined by his
four conservative colleagues.
Roberts wrote that presidents have substantial power to regulate
immigration.
He also rejected the challengers’ claim of anti-Muslim bias.
But he was careful not to endorse either Trump’s provocative
statements about immigration in general and Muslims in particular.
“We express no view on the soundness of the policy,” Roberts wrote.
The travel ban has been fully in place since the court declined to block it in December. The justices
allowed the policy to take full effect even as the court fight continued and lower courts had ruled it out
of bounds.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote in a dissent that based on the evidence in the case “a reasonable
observer would conclude that the Proclamation was motivated by anti-Muslim animus.” She said her
colleagues arrived at the opposite result by “ignoring the facts, misconstruing our legal precedent, and
turning a blind eye to the pain and suffering the Proclamation inflicts upon countless families and
individuals, many of whom are United States citizens.”
Justices Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan also dissented.
The policy applies to travelers from five countries with overwhelmingly Muslim populations — Iran,
Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen. It also affects two non-Muslim countries: blocking travelers from
North Korea and some Venezuelan government officials and their families. A sixth majority Muslim
country, Chad, was removed from the list in April after improving “its identity-management and
information sharing practices,” Trump said in a proclamation.
The administration had pointed to the Chad decision to show that the restrictions are premised only on
national security concerns.
The challengers, though, argued that the court could just ignore all that has happened, beginning with
Trump’s campaign tweets to prevent the entry of Muslims into the United States. Just a week after he
took office in January 2017, Trump announced his first travel ban aimed at seven countries.
That triggered chaos and protests across the U.S. as travelers were stopped from boarding international
flights and detained at airports for hours. Trump tweaked the order after the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of
Appeals in San Francisco refused to reinstate the ban.
The next version, unveiled in March 2017, dropped Iraq from the list of covered countries and made it
clear the 90-day ban covering Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen didn’t apply to those
travelers who already had visas. It also eliminated language that would give priority to religious
minorities. Critics said the changes didn’t erase the ban’s legal problems.
The current version dates from September and it followed what the administration has called a
thorough review by several federal agencies, although it has not shared the review with courts or the
public.
Federal trial judges in Hawaii and Maryland had blocked the travel ban from taking effect, finding that
the new version looked too much like its predecessors. Those rulings that were largely upheld by
federal appeals courts in Richmond, Virginia, and San Francisco.
Roberts wrote that presidents have frequently used their power to talk to the nation “to espouse the
principles of religious freedom and tolerance on which this Nation was founded.”
But he added that presidents and the country have not always lived up “to those inspiring words.”

Federal Lawsuit Could Bar Public from
Beaches and Recreation Areas
A federal lawsuit, filed on behalf of a beachfront homeowner,
attempts to block Walton County, Florida’s efforts to legally
recognize customary use, or the public’s long standing right to use
the beaches for recreational purposes.
This lawsuit has national implications and, if successful, could
deny the public’s traditional right to use recreational sites
throughout the United States.
Walton County takes this threat very seriously. Walton County is
prepared to aggressively defend customary use and is confident the
public’s right to continue to enjoy the beach will be upheld.
In Walton County, a customary use ordinance adopted by the
Board of County Commissioners in 2017 (Ordinance 2017-10)
officially recognized the public’s long standing right to enjoy
traditional recreational activities on the flat, sandy section of beach
between the dune line and the Gulf of Mexico.
However, in 2018, the Florida legislature passed Florida House Bill
631 (2018 Fla. HB 631) which, when it goes into effect on
July 1, 2018, will mean Walton County’s ordinance will
no longer have legal standing.
Walton County officials have previously stated their intention to
adopt a new ordinance under the guidelines set forth by HB 631
which, if successful, would reaffirm the public’s right to continue to
use the areas of flat sandy beach for traditional recreation.
However, it appears that the new federal lawsuit filed by the
Tallahassee Law Firm of Hopping Green & Sams, P.A., on behalf
of Walter E. Blessey, Jr. is intended to block the efforts of the
commissioners and deny the public’s right to recreational use of
beaches.
Walton County government officials are vowing to fight the efforts
to deprive the public of their long-held rights to the sandy portions
of the beach. “This kind of stuff burns me up,” says Walton County
District 5 County Commissioner Tony Anderson. “This is about
doing the right thing. It’s time we stood up and took back our
beaches.”
Due to the far-reaching implications of a federal lawsuit, findings
in this case could affect the public’s rights to beaches and recreation
areas not just in Florida, but throughout the United States.

AN EXCLUSIVE RESPONSE FROM THE “ALLEGED

ABUSIVE” TEACHER IN FREEPORT
After a long discussion and a very sincere request to inform the Freeport citizens and also
the Parents who have known Teacher, Kelly Woodworth over the past 10 years or more.
If you have been aware of the Northwest Daily News of Florida had run 5 consecutive
stories all accusing Ms. Woodworth of causing harm to an Autistic child.
Then again, the key statement from NWF was that these were “alleged” charges.
After lengthy investigations and all statements reported that even the WCSO found
“NOTHING” worthy of a criminal offensive charge upon Woodworth.
So, does that mean that Ms. Woodworth now will get to continue doing her job as a
Teacher which she lives for? Somewhat. After reviewing the decisions of the School
Board feels it to be in the best interest to relocate this (mother of 3) to the DeFuniak
Springs School system. Does this seem right? She was enjoying working with the children
from the area in which she lives in addition to the fact that her own children go within
Freeport system too. That made it easier for her to multi-task and raise her children well
by seeing them throughout the school season. Now that all will change for her.

DeFuniak Council looking for answers $95K IRS bill
The DeFuniak Springs City Council voted unanimously to approve a request for assistance from an
accounting firm that has agreed to help get answers to questions surrounding a recently arrived federal tax
bill of $95,196.22.
One of the questions will be whether there actually is a debt. Another centers around why a previous
finance director had received three other letters from the IRS demanding money and chose to inform no
one.
The latest bill arrived May 28 and, though addressed to the city clerk, wound up in the hands of Morgan
Hulion, who is working under the title of finance supervisor while the city searches for someone to
replace former Finance Director Joe Brown, who left in April of 2017.
Hulion contacted the IRS and was told agents couldn’t speak to her unless she agreed to acknowledge and
accept the debt owed on behalf of the city, City Attorney Clay Adkinson told council members.
Hulion wisely declined, he said.
The request to place the IRS item on the city’s consent agenda was made by Hulion to City Clerk Loretta
Laird. Laird said she had not seen the letter prior to late last week.
“They just handed it to me, and I just put it on there,” Laird said.
On the consent agenda, however, the item could have been voted on without discussion. A motion by
Council Member Ron Kelley pushed it onto the agenda for discussion.
Adkinson told the council that a search of the city’s finance department found a file with three other
letters, one from 2016 and two from 2017, also demanding the tax bill be resolved.
Brown, apparently was the only one who knew of these letters.

Actually, Alzheimer’s disease is a disease that didn’t exist 40 years ago. Alzheimer’s
disease, even by another name, could not be found in any medical dictionary or
textbook or taught in any medical curriculum. It only became an entity in the
medical literature in 1979. And today it is apparently the number 4 killer of adults in
the United States over the age of 65, behind cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes,
and then comes Alzheimer’s disease. It appears to me, with no doubt, that it is due to
what I call a ‘physician-caused disease’. Because doctors have encouraged people,
in fact demanded that people give up saturated fat and cholesterol and move towards
a cholesterol restricted diet to get their blood cholesterol down below 200, and they
have created no less than 25 of these cholesterol diseases. And to me, Alzheimer’s
disease is one of the big ones.

that insulates each nerve fiber of the brain and spinal cord, and we can only make
about 10% of our daily need of cholesterol. The other 90% must come from the diet.
And if a person is very good about giving up chicken skin and red meat, and dairy
and eggs, like a doctor would have them do, after about 6 or 8 or 10 years they’re
not going to be able to keep up with the maintenance and repair needs of the
cholesterol for the myelin and the brain and spinal cord, so you can just expect that a
person is going to develop one or more of these 25 physician-caused diseases,
including acquired seizure disorders and Alzheimer’s disease.
Now the best way to avoid Alzheimer’s is to eat a couple of eggs every morning for
breakfast, not cooked in margarine or fried, you want to consume as much as 72oz of
red meat every single month. I know that sounds like a lot, but it’s just a quarter
pounder a day, and you want to supplement with all 90 essential nutrients, and when
you get to the Vitamin E level you want to have at least 2,000 international units of
Vitamin E, and you want 500mcg of Selenium, and if you do that, even if you
already have Alzheimer’s disease, you can honestly expect to have a significant
amount of return of memory. Great studies done by University of California at San
Diego and the Salk Institute that says by taking 2,000 ICU of Vitamin E alone, even

ridiculed, insulted, lied to & beyond common logic, threatened with death, threatened
to rape our Beautiful First Lady, Our First Lady Disrespected, & have his children
also insulted & humiliated.
I am truly ashamed of the people of MY country. I am ashamed of the ruthless,
hating, cruel, Trump haters who display themselves as to having no pride, morals,
ethics nor values in Our Country's traditions. Our Elders taught us 30, 40+ yrs ago to
respect our President, whether we voted for them or not, & all these news stations &
reporters who feel they have the right to carry on with blatant lies & say the things
they do for a good story. Even provoking false narrative headlines. Read the details
and it has nothing to do with the actual facts of the story.
Every other President before he was elected, that took the
oath of office, was left alone, wasn't on the news 24/7,
scrutinized by their every word.

Should I Really Join
Facebook? (Priceless)
A good laugh for people in the over 70
group! When I bought my Blackberry, I
thought about the 30-year business I ran with
1800 employees, all without a cell phone that
plays music, takes videos, pictures and
communicates with Facebook and Twitter.
I signed up (under duress) for Twitter and
Facebook, so my seven kids, their spouses, my
13 grand kids and 2 great grand kids could
communicate with me in the modern way. I
figured I could handle something as simple as
Twitter with only 140 characters of space. My
phone was beeping every three minutes with
the details of everything except the bowel
movements of the entire next generation. I am
not ready to live like this. I keep my cell phone
in the garage in my golf bag.
The kids bought me a GPS for my last
birthday because they say I get lost every now
and then going over to the grocery store or
library. I keep that in a box under my tool
bench with the Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am
supposed to use when I drive. I wore it once
and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble
talking to my wife and everyone in the nearest
50 yards was glaring at me. I had to take my
hearing aid out to use it, and I got a little loud.
I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my
dash board, but the lady inside that gadget was
the most annoying, rudest person I had run into
in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would
sarcastically say, "Re-calc-u-lating." You
would think that she could be nicer. It was like
she could barely tolerate me. She would let go
with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-
turn at the next light. Then if I made a right
turn instead. Well, it was not a good relation-
ship... hen I get really lost now, I call my wife
and tell her the name of the cross streets and
while she is starting to develop the same tone
as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me.
To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn
how to use the cordless phones in our house.
We have had them for 4 years, but I still
haven't figured out how I lose three phones all
at once and have to run around digging under
chair cushions, checking bathrooms, and the
dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings.
The world is just getting too complex for
me. They even mess me up every time I go to
the grocery store. You would think they could
settle on something themselves but this sudden
"Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just
knocks me for a loop. I bought some of those
cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused,
but I never remember to take them with me.
Now I toss it back to them. When they ask me,
"Paper or plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter
to me. I am bi-sacksual." Then it's their turn to
stare at me with a blank look.
I was recently asked if I tweet.
I answered, No, but I do fart a lot."
P.S. I know some of you are not over 70
We senior citizens don't need any more
gadgets. The TV remote and the garage door
remote are about all we can handle.
