Generally, monthly sharing meetings are held at Kenilworth United Church of Christ, 45 Dalton Drive,
Tonawanda 14223, from 2:30 - 4.30. Newcomers and anyone interested will be offered the option of meeting
privately with a PFLAG parent. Our monthly meetings are in the library, which is near the parking lot entrance.
The facility is handicapped accessible. New Parents Meetings are scheduled as needed at a location
convenient to those involved. These self-help one-on-one meetings deal with the concerns of parents and
family members who have recently learned that a loved one is gay.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
We meet because we have learned that someone very close to us is Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, or
Transgender. We try to help one another deal with this information in a positive manner. Although we do
not agree at all times, we try to be understanding. We offer help to those who seek it, but do not force
ourselves on others. We strive to maintain anonymity while sharing on a level that is comfortable for all of
us. We encourage all to attend meetings for their own.

Pride Week
PFLAG members and supporters at parade staging area at Buffalo State College.
Early this June, a donation of $1,000 from The Colligan Family Fund of the Greater
Buffalo Community Foundation was sent to our chapter. Words fail to express how
much we appreciate this generous gift.
With this Colligan Family Fund contribution, we will be able to increase and expand
much of what we do in outreach, education, support, and advocacy.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to this foundation and the advisors who chose our group
as the fortunate recipient; we promise to use this gift wisely for maximum impact.
Again, we thank The Colligan Fund and send our promise that the gift will be used
well to make a difference for family, friends, and LGBTQ community members.

Scholarship Winners
PFLAG announces the two winners of the Marvin L. Henchbarger Scholarships for
2018. We received more applications than usual this year, and all were very strong.
The decision was difficult but the winners were truly deserving students and citizens.
Lauren Grover, a graduating senior from Silver Creek, was very active in her
high school. She brought LGBTQ issues to the attention of the district
superintendent, fought for gender neutral bathrooms, and helped a student
transitioning find resources. Lauren promises to always speak out when I see
something that isn’t right, not because it’s wrong but because it’s who I am.”
Newfane’s Madison Scib won one of the $500.00 awards as well. She was very
active in school clubs, service to her community, and in her school’s Gay-Straight
Alliance. Madison helped with the club’s Day of Silence and also promoted middle-
school student participating in GSA meetings.
Ms. Scib is very interested in helping students so that “their journeys will be easier
than mine.” She plans a career working for the environment and will still focus on
society as “a queer individual trying to make a difference.”
Congratulations Lauren and Madison!
