Batteries and chargers for Protection and Control supply shall be provided.
16.9.1.1 Battery
i. 1 (one) 110V battery. Capacity at least 400Ah/10h for substations a 132KV
substations and above
ii. The 48V batteries of not less than 200Ah/10h rating shall be included in the bid
for communication equipment and the RTU.
iii. The 110V and 48V batteries shall be Nickel cadmium type with a nominal
Voltage of 1.20Vpc.
The bidder’s design shall check adequacy of the proposed capacities based upon the calculated
consumption considering a fully developed substation. Where the design capacity is higher than
the employer’s capacity, the design capacity shall be adopted. Where the design is lower than the
proposed, the employer’s capacity shall be adopted.
Batteries shall be installed in separate room with explosion proof ventilation fan.
16.9.1.2 Charger
(a) 1 (one) DC charger for the 110V battery.
(b) 1 (one) DC charger for the 48V Battery.
The chargers shall be complete with instruments, breakers on AC and DC side and protection.
The chargers shall have auxiliary contacts for collection of status, alarms and measurands for the
SCADA system.
16.9.1.3 Switchboard
1 (one) switchboard 110VDC.
(g) 20% of the breakers of any size shall be spare and readily mounted.

be completely filled
The Scope will include Supply and Installation of communications, telephones, tele-protection
and SCADA equipment for the efficient supervision, control, operation and maintenance of the
transmission system.

transmission system. Optical fibre communication link with its associated terminal equipment is
required from the Narok Substation to Bomet Substation. At Narok the signals from the terminal
equipment shall be integrated into the existing communication System to local control centre and
to the National Control Centre.
The contractor shall include detailed system design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing,
commissioning, remedying of defects, maintaining the works during the defects liability period
and any incidental work necessary for the proper completion of the work in accordance with this
contract.
FATs shall be carried out for fibre, OLTE and RTU as per cls 1.24. Training shall be carried out
for RTU and SDH equipment.
System design – The system design and preparation of contractor's drawings to approval of the
Engineer
Supply and installation of fibre optic lead-in cables including mounting hardware and splicing.
Supply and installation of supervisory management system and cabling to the relevant distribution
frame(s)
