The Lord’s Prayer Psalm 26

Refers to our God as Father Refers to our God as Lord

Prayer consists mostly of petitions, where the Refers to many things he “doesn’t do” and
only line of praise is the first one. only wicked people.

Asks for daily bread Asks to be vindicated

Does not claim he is better than anyone or Claims the things he does not do (sit with
deserving of God because of others actions. worthless, consort with hypocrites, will not
sit with the wicked, etc. )
Asks to be delivered from evil Asks to not be swept away with sinners

Asks for help in doing God’s work Claims to already have faithfulness

Asks for forgiveness and guidance from the Boasts about the things he doesn’t do and
Lord that he deserves the Lord’s love.

I chose to compare the similarities and differences between The Lord’s Prayer and Psalm 26.
The Lord’s Prayer opens with praise to God and continues with petitions to God. The tone set in
this prayer is very different from the Psalm. The tone is much more humble, where it shows
forgiveness and guidance from the Lord in doing his work and treating others like God would.
On the other hand, Psalm 26 has more of a boasting tone to it. The many things he doesn’t do,
is the main parts of this Psalm; not sitting with the wicked, not to consort with hypocrites, etc.
The Lord’s Prayer helps us to see the kind of relationship that God wants us to have. The
petitions throughout this prayer, are side by side with the tone, which represent God’s will,
holiness, kingdom and character to become evident on earth in our daily lives.
