1 T/W CHECK

T
= 0.105
W cruise
T
= 0.107
W climb
Our powerplant is selected so as to provide a maximum thrust of 27.27 N and an operating thrust
of 11.7 N. For climb and cruise the thrust requied is 1.68 and 1.65 N respectively. The facor of
safety is close to 7 for both cases. Hence, the design is safe.

2 CHECK ON BASIC LIFT EQUATION

At 11 m/s, the maximum Cl that can be achieved is 1.3. Now taking sref = 0.293m2 and ρ =
1.225kg/m3 we get
L = 28.23N
The weight of the plane is 15.7 N. The factor of safety is 1.8.

3 CHECK ON Cm vs alpha CURVE

Using XFLR, the Cm vs alpha curve is obtained . Negative slope with positive intercept on y axis
ensures stability of the aircraft.
