POST DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION

POST: Associate Dean

SALARY: £55,000

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week (flexibility required)

LOCATION: City and Riverside Campus, as required

REPORTING TO: Dean

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Curriculum Head(s)

KEY CHALLENGES

1. To assist the Dean in the successful realisation of the Board’s vision, mission
and plans for the City of Glasgow College in delivering a College that meets
expectations and aspirations for a leading world class learning and teaching
environment.
2. To assist the Dean in the leadership and implementation of the Student
Experience strategy and associated policies and procedures within faculty
area.
3. To lead and operationally manage the development of curriculum team
groupings as Industry Academies, promoting an industry focused tertiary
educational model.
4. To deliver commercial and/or international development/non SFC income
generation for a group of Industry Academies in tandem with key
stakeholders.
5. To lead and inspire staff to be creative and innovative in all aspects of
pedagogy and to embed City Learning 4.0 across Industry Academies.
6. To manage operational planning and delivery of the Faculty Operational Plan
and Outcome Agreement measures.
7. Ensure performance targets (i.e. student early retention, retention, and
achievement, student satisfaction) exceed national benchmarks.
8. Embrace and drive student centred learning and develop a range of
successful partnerships within curriculum areas in order to drive and deliver
dynamic, creative and innovative learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To work with the Senior Management Team in achieving the College’s vision
of excellence through the development and implementation of the College’s
Strategic Plans, mission, vision, values and behaviours.
2. Deputise for Dean for delegated matters as required and represent faculty at
relevant external stakeholder meetings.
3. To be responsible and accountable for financial control of budgets within
industry academies and partnership ventures to ensure these do not fall
outside agreed parameters.
4. To be accountable to the Dean for the development and delivery of their
particular leadership responsibilities as directed by the Dean, including but
not limited to:

 Operational Management for curriculum areas/Industry Academies


 Leadership for cross faculty activity e.g. Learning and Teaching,
Schools and Universitiy partnerships, Commercial, Guidance and Skills
for Learning, Life and Work, Health and Safety
 Leadership of curriculum areas/Industry Academies
 Develop a personalised student experience,
 Deliver City Learning 4.0
 Manage international and commercial development opportunities
and increase income against set targets
 Contribute to the Outcome Agreement measures
 Oversee HE provision within academic areas
 Ensure maximisation of positive student outcomes and destinations
 Support curriculum hub activity
 Deliver world-class centres of excellence

5. To develop a high performing team providing inspirational and exemplary


leadership and strategic direction, ensuring all annual performance and
development reviews are completed.
6. To work collegiately with key stakeholders aligning faculty portfolio with the
requirements of College Strategic Priorities,Outcome Agreement and
Government Priorities.
7. To identify opportunities for the strategic development of new courses and
contribute to the development of such ideas.
8. To promote an effective learning experience through the promotion of skills
for Learning, Life and Work; including enterprise and employability.
9. To be a champion of change, communication, continuous improvement and
empowerment, securing motivation, loyalty and the support of direct reports
in particular and staff in general.

KEY ROLES

1. To co-ordinate and manage the planning and delivery of the Student


Experience to ensure it is of the highest standard, including, in particular:

 Establishing and maintaining high levels of professional conduct and

 Being accountable for, improvements in the quality of the student
experience delivered in the area of responsibility
 Ensuring that the performance targets for the improvement in quality
of learning and teaching, student satisfaction and attainment for the

students’ achievements within the area of responsibility as per the
Outcome Agreement and College KPIs
 Co-ordinating and managing the deployment of faculty resources
using resource management tools; staffing, materials, rooming etc.
 Ensuring that admissions policy and processes are managed rigorously
and fairly and within agreed levels of activity
 Managing the student complaints, disciplinary process and conduct
across the faculty areas.
 Undertake the roles of Investigation Officer or Chair for staff discipline
and grievance allegations

2. To manage an outstanding curriculum offering in agreed Industry Academies


including:
 Manage annual curriculum review activities within curriculum areas
 Manage and support performance reviews and external quality
enhancement reporting within curriculum areas
 Manage curriculum development to respond to stakeholder needs
and market demand within curriculum areas

3. To liaise with the Director of Performance in ensuring quality assurance and


improvement targets and in preparation for internal and external monitoring
and review.
4. To ensure any findings from student complaints or quality concerns are

actioned and delivered in a timely manner to ensure the productive and


effective improvement to the learning and teaching environment.
5. Accountability for timeous provision of data input with respect to student
results and outcomes within curriculum area/Industry Academy.
6. To support appropriate aspects of the College strategic and annual business
planning and budgeting processes.
7. To maintain effective relationships with local, regional and national agencies;
develop appropriate external relations with other senior professionals and
industry; and represent the College in external discussions regarding
curriculum matters where appropriate.
8. To be responsible for staff temporary hours, ensuring full utilisation of
permanent staff within academic areas.
9. To co-ordinate and monitor staff CPD within academic area including training
to support corporate duties e.g. Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Prevent and
Corporate Parenting.
10. Production and presentation of management reports as required.
11. Ensure direct reports receive regular feedback on their performance.

General

6. Undertake cross college operational management duties to support business
continuity needs e.g. AAFM, Duty Manager
