Speaker Liv Carroll
Liv is an experienced Chartered Geologist with an understanding
of projects at all stages of the mining cycle, from grassroots
exploration in Greenland and Tanzania to remediation of old
quarry and mine sites in the UK and Cyprus. She currently
works for Gemcom in a solutions consulting role whereby she
works with clients to optimise their efficiency in the application
of Gemcom technologies in order to maximise returns. Prior to
joining Gemcom, Liv was a Senior Geologist with Wardell
Armstrong (WA) where her role was to deliver competent
persons reports and undertake technical due diligence. Liv joined
WA following a year working in Turkey for Stratex International
PLC where her focus was high sulphidation epithermal gold and
copper-gold porphyry systems. Liv started out her career path
working for Capita Symonds as a Minerals Geologist. In this role
she was focused on the UK minerals industry providing specialist
geological knowledge to mineral operators, including Tarmac,
Lafarge and Aggregate Industries, along with government
departments and the Minerals Industry Research Organisation
(MIRO).
Liv holds a BSc in Geology from Durham University and a
Masters from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, in
Mineral Project Appraisal. Liv is heavily involved in industry
bodies, as MinSouth Councillor since 2004, President 2008/2009
and Honorary Secretary 2009/2010, as well as being a member
of the Applied Earth Science Division of IOM3. She also
organises the monthly Mining Sundowner in The Glassblower,
Piccadilly; this casual gathering of mining professionals and
students is open to everyone in the mining sector.
In her talk, titled ‘Add Another String to Your Bow’, Liv will
discuss career options in the mining sector and how to add to
your academic qualifications in terms of skills, experience and
industry involvement/exposure.
