DEFINITION

A slump test is a method used to determine the consistency of concrete. The

consistency, or stiffness, indicates how much water has been used in the mix. The stiffness of
the concrete mix should be matched for the finished product quality. The concrete slump test
is used for the measurement of a property of fresh concrete. The test is an empirical test that
measures the workability of fresh concrete.

The slumped concrete takes various shapes, and according to the profile of slumped
concrete, the slump is termed as;

Collapse Slump
In a collapse slump the concrete collapses completely. A collapse slump will generally
mean that the mix is too wet or that it is a high workability mix, for which slump test is not
appropriate.
Shear Slump
When one-half of the concrete mass slide down the other is called the shear slump.
True Slump
The concrete mass after the test when slumps evenly all around without disintegration
is called the true slump.

Applications of Slump Test

ADVANTAGES OF CONCRETE SLUMP TEST:

1. The procedure of slump test is simple and easy than any other workability test.

2. Inexpensive and portable apparatus are required for this test.

3. Slump test can be performed at the construction site as well as in the laboratory.
APPARATUS AND MATERIALS

2. Measuring scale
1. Mould or slump cone with a height of
300 mm, bottom diameter 200 mm, and
top diameter 100 mm.

3. Temping rod (steel) 4. Non-porous base plate.

5. Mortar Spoon 6. Fresh Concerete

PROCEDURE
1. The materials and tools were prepared.

2. Then, the fresh concrete was made,

3. The mold of the slump test was made by iron cone, and it had smaller opening at the
top.

4. The inner surface of the mold was cleaned and then apply oil to it.

5. Next, the mold was set on a smooth surface of the iron base.

6. After that, it was filled with fresh concrete in three layers.

7. Each layers was temped 25 times with steel rod, rounded at the end.

8. When the mold was completely filled with concrete, the top surface was levelled with
concrete, it could be rolled by temping rod.

9. Next, the mold cone was lifted slowly in the vertical direction without disturbing the
concrete cone.

10. Lastly, the measuring scale was used to measure the difference level between the
height of the mould and the concrete sample.

Measured the different height.

Result and Discussion

Slump Value = High mold – The average high from the fresh concrete.
Slump Value = 30 – 23
Slump Value = 7 cm
From the Slump test we could know that the fresh concrete used to slab.

SUGGETION :

1. The procedure must be read before working.

2. The material and tools must be cleaned before the test.

3. The safety shoes and gloves is wore when working.

4. Always focus on the work.

CONCLUSION :
In accomplishing this test, we can know the required water content of concrete in
accordance with its function. Plus, we can know and feel how thick or liquid the mixture of
concrete in the field. Furthemore, We can know and learn the utility in slump equipment.
And we can know the importance of the slump test on the concrete mix under construction.
