Boost converter produces an output voltage greater than the input voltage.

How it works is:

1. When the close: diode switch works reversed, so the output is open / isolated. and the input
supplies energy to the inductor.
2. When the switch is open: the output receives energy from the input and the inductor so that its
output is larger than the input.
3. The output voltage is maintained by a large C / ripple voltage kept small by the capacitor.

The philosophy of this converter is to store or accommodate the electrical energy of the inductor
(electrical energy reservoir) so that it can produce variations of output voltage by adjusting the
duty cycle.

Step 1
Find duty cycle value for Voutput = 36V
𝑉𝑠
𝑉𝑜 =
1− 𝐷
24
36 =
1− 𝐷
36 (1 – D) = 24
36 – 36D = 24
12 = 36D
D = 0,3

Step 2
Find R
𝑉𝑜
R= 𝐼𝑜
P = V I = I2 R = Vo2 / R

(36)2
R = Vo2 = 50
= 25,92 ≈ 26 Ω
Step 3
Find L
D (1−D)2 R
Lmin = 2𝑓

0,3 (1−0,3)2 (26)

= 2 (40 × 103 )

= 4,7775 × 10-5 H
= 47,775 µH

L = 10 ×Lmin = 10 (47,775 µH) = 477,75 µH

Note: multiplied by 10 because the ripple current could be happened
