1) India Receives cheapest LNG at $7 per mmBtu. India looks to increase gas from 6% to 15%.

2) Qatar and Russia are LNG suppliers. Indias Global Energy Consumption is 5.3% compared to
22.9% of China. Demand for Gas is Expected to expand at 162% against 120% for oil and 105%
for coal.
3) Share Of gas went from 9% in 2007 to 6.5% in 2018
4) By Paris meeting, india should reduce carbon emission by 35% from 2005 levels by 2030 and
also produce 40% of power from non-fossil fuel sources.
5) LNG works by lowering hydrocarbon temperature to -160 deg celcius. This liquefies Methane
and hence now transportation at atm pressure is possible. LNG has Methane and ethane. Safe
even under spills as it will burn only when mixed with air at 5 and 15% concentration.
6) US withdrawl from iran nuclear deal increase fuel price to $70 per barrel. Iran is the third largest
producer in OPEC. Loss of 500000 barrels per day of iran oil pushes cost up by $6.20 per barrel
7) Brent Crude is sweet (low sulphur) and light (low density) and is extracted from north sea and
functions as major benchmark for oil prices. Other benchmarks are OPEC ref basket, Dubai
crude, Oman crude, Urals crude and west texas intermediate.
8) US Shale not sufficient to plug losses due to logistical constraints like insufficient pipeline
capacity.
9) The problem is western insurers would not insure tankers if sanctions are reinstated like in 2012
10) In 2012, India had a two pronged strategy of having Teheran insurance on case to case basis and
asking united insurance to cover ships hauling for state run oil refineries.
11) Indias energy imports is expected to exceed 53% of countrys total energy consumption

12) Total installed renewable energy capacity (including large hydro projects) in India touched
107.81 GW as of February 2018, which is around 32.26% of total energy capacity of the country
(334.15 GW).
13) During December 2017, total installed wind power capacity in the renewables mix stood at
32.85 GW (52.27 per cent), while solar power capacity was 17.05 GW (27.13 per cent). Total
solar capacity in India is expected to be 8 per cent of global solar capacity by 2035. The countrys
power demand has been increasing at 6% per annum. India has a target to add 175 GW of
renewable energy by 2022.
14) India plans to raise solar energy to 100GW by 2022. SoftBank invests $100bn on the solar sector
in india.
15) OPEC to raise oil output by 1 million bpd from july. India to make rupee payments and might
follow steps as in 2012 to bypass safely under the US sanctions on Iran. In 2012, India used state
owned insurance companies and Teheran based insurance companies to insure oil tankers.

16) As per paris climate agreement, india should produce 40% from non fossil fuel by 2030. But it is
now projected to reach 55% by 2030, with renewables alone already standing at 32%
17) The Union Cabinet has approved construction of 10 units of indigenous Pressurized Heavy Water
Reactors (PHWR), with a nuclear capacity of 700 MW each
18) Govt Schemes in Renewable energy sector:
 Around 4.96 million household size biogas plants were installed in the country under the
National Biogas and Manure Management Programme (NBMMP) by 2016-17 end
 The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has decided to provide custom and
excise duty benefits to the solar rooftop sector, which in turn will lower the cost of
setting up as well as generate power, thus boosting growth.
 The Indian Railways is taking increased efforts through sustained energy efficient
measures and maximum use of clean fuel to cut down emission level by 33 per cent by
2030.
