RE: Letter of Recommendation for “Student”

Dear University Admissions Committee,

It is a pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for "student". I have known

"student" for the last 3 years as her counselors and also have had the opportunity as
the U16 Volleyball Coach to observe "student" providing mentorship to some of the
girls on my team. In a cohort group that has some pretty strong leaders, "student" is a
student who not only emerges at the top for academics and involvement, she is one of
the most amiable students in her grade. Her kindness and authenticity allows her to
connect with a variety of students in a variety of settings.

When I started at AIS, "student" was in her grade 10 year and she could always be
found surrounded by a group of seniors. Although her presence was often quiet, I
would not say she went unnoticed. Once that group graduated, she went from in the
shadows to in the spotlight. She quickly became key leadership positions in the
Volleyball, Cross-Country, and Badminton and was a finalist for the 2016-2017 Female
Athlete of the Year. Had "student" played four seasons of sports, opposed to three, I
know she would have won the award as she was identified by her coaches as a highly
valuable team member. Additionally, she has been involved with the school’s Athletic
Council, which is an equivalent role as Student Council, and was appointed Treasurer
for the 2016-2017 school year. It has been exciting to see how her involvement and
leadership in athletics has developed her composure and confidence.

As you may imagine, her heavy involvement in extracurriculars require a high level of
time management to ensure she maintains her academic performance. More
impressively, "student" has one of the most rigorous course schedules that our school
offers. With taking the most rigorous course load in her cohort with a total of 9
classes over the last two years, it is an understatement to say she has challenged
herself particularly her during her junior year when 6 out of her 7 blocks were APs
and one of those courses was Calculus AB/BC, which is run concurrently. "student" is
not to be underestimated. Her diligence in her classes is evident and her personality
has added life to many a class discussion.

It is hard to imagine our campus without "student" here as she is one of the first
students in her cohort I remember meeting, but I am confident that "student" will be a
valuable addition to your campus and will help improve and enrich your community
on campus. She has been ready to go off to college two years ago when her friends
graduated from AIS. Please contact me at hhendrickx@ais.edu.hk should you have any
questions regarding "student"’s application. It is with great pleasure that I highly
recommend "student" for your university.

Sincerely,

Heather Hendrickx
High School Counselor
