OPTIMIZATION OF GARLIC CHIVES(ALLIUM SCHOENOPRASUM) FERTILIZER

USING EXTRACTED PENCIL SHAVINGS BY PYROLYSIS

Joseph Renz P. dela Pena(Team Leader), Ron Brylle Gomez, Nickedes Karl Mojado
START: 3rd week of June 2018
END: Last week of August 2018
A. RATIONALE

Wood waste is an effective bioorganic fertilization if the appropriate conditions

are met. The material’s chemical components and nitrogen level began to change which
are suitable for the plant’s growth especially for acacia and eucalyptus trees (Chu,
Nguyen, et al.). The researchers aim to lessen environmental wastes and improve the
potency of plant fertilizers.

B. QUESTIONS/PROBLEMS BEING ADDRESSED

 Do pencil shavings increase the effectiveness of plant?
 Is it safe for humans to be exposed to the extract?
 Does the extract react to the fertilizer?
C. GOALS/ EXPECTED OUTCOMES/ HYPOTHESIS
 The pencil shavings will increase the effectiveness of plant fertilizers.
 The pencil shavings will not increase the effectiveness of plant fertilizers.
 The researchers are expecting that using the pencil shavings will produce the best
results.

D. DESCRIPTION IN DETAIL OF METHODS OR PROCEDURES

GATHERING THE MATERIALS
The main material, pencil shavings will be obtained from different peoples from or
schools. The pencil shavings are subdivided into 4 categories upon testing: Pure fertilizer, Pure
extracted pencil shavings, Pure pencil shavings, Fertilizer and Extracted Pencil Shavings.
Approximately, about 50 grams of pencil shaving will be applied on the categories with needed
pencil shavings. The plant that the researcher will be is Garlic Chives which grows 7-14 days.
EXTRACTION OF PENCIL SHAVINGS
The pencil shavings will be extracted using the process of pyrolysis. The product will
then be applied according to the categories mentioned.
TESTING THE EXPERIMENT
The subject will be tested, one by one, in the improvised setup wherein the type of
soil, environment, and water is the same. The subject will be observed on a 1-month time length
to evaluate the product
DATA COLLECTION
Data collection will be done to assess this study. This will be conducted to know the
effectiveness of addition of pencil shavings to the fertilizer on its growth increasing properties.
Mostly, quantitative analysis on the data in relation to the height of plant and weight of the plant
will be focused in the study. Significant differences in the data including the observed
measurements will be assessed and evaluated
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS
The researchers will be using One-Way Analysis of Variance as statistical treatment
of data because there is only one independent variable which is the pencil shavings with different
amounts and each set-up is divided into 3 replications. The researchers will observe the growth
rate of the plant upon the presence and absence of pencil shaving
