Starting from 6th June 2016, an appointment per person is required. Each visa applicant is not allowed to have more than
ONE appointment. If you have more than one, all your appointments will be cancelled.

Only seamen who are nationals from a country which is required to have a valid visa to enter the Schengen Space need
to apply for a transit visa and if they intend to: a) join a ship that is (or will be) in a Schengen port, b) land with the aim
of join another ship that is (or will arrive) in a Schengen port, or c) land due to sickness, repatriation, holiday and so on.
The requirements to apply for a seamen visa are different depending on the flag of the ship.

Required documents
1. One application form duly filled in and signed by the applicant.
2. One recent colour photo, with white background.

Original and one photocopy of each of the following items must be presented:

3. Passport of the applicant, which must be valid for at least 6 months.


4. Hong Kong or Macau ID and Residence Visa (For non-permanent resident)
5. Seaman’s book.
6. Letter in Spanish from the inviting Spanish Shipping Company where it must be stated all this information:

a) Nombre y apellido del marino,


b) Fecha de nacimiento
c) Lugar de nacimiento
d) Nº de pasaporte
e) Fecha de expedición del pasaporte
f) Fecha de vigencia del pasaporte
g) Empleo del marino en el buque
h) Fecha de entrada en España
i) Nombre del buque
j) Bandera del buque
k) Aeropuerto de entrada en España
l) Duración de la estancia de los marinos en el buque
m) Puerto marítimo de desembarque
n) Fecha de regreso al país de origen
o) Itinerario que seguirán los marinos para viajar a España
p) Itinerario que seguirán los marinos para regresar a Hong Kong / Macao
q) Nombre de la agencia hongkonesa para la que trabaja el marino
r) Dirección, número de teléfono y dirección de correo electrónico de de la agencia de Hong Kong / Macao
para la que trabaja el marino
s) Recoger expresamente en la carta de invitación que se hará cargo de los marinos a su llegada a España para
su traslado al buque correspondiente tanto a su llegada a España como a su regreso a su país de origen en el
supuesto de que se realice a través de territorio español.

If it is a ship flying the Spanish flag, it is also required:


7. Provisional residence and work permit, issued by the Foreigners Office in Spain.

Once the visa application is submitted, the Consulate General of Spain in Hong Kong will contact the Spanish Shipping
Company to request that the application is also submitted at the Police Station of the harbour.

Where can I apply for this visa?
Only Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR residents can apply for a visa at this Consulate General.

How to Apply
Please, complete the application form and present it along with the required documents. The application must be signed
and submitted in person or by the Shipping Company. All documents must be presented in Spanish or English.
Documents in Chinese or other languages will also be accepted as long as they are officially translated into Spanish or
English.
Applicants might be invited for an interview concerning the visa application.

Working hours: Visa application and collection from 9am to 12pm, Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.

Processing Time and Fees


Visa applications shall not be lodged less than 15 days or more than 3 months before the start of the intended visit.
In general, the visa processing time is around 2 weeks (e.g.: HKDI, Macao Travel Document, People’s Republic of China, India,
Thailand, Philippines or Indonesia passports). In case the application needs to be sent for decision to the authorities in Spain (e.g.:
Pakistan or Vietnam passports) processing will take around 3 weeks, but could be extended up to a maximum of 30 calendar days.
Exceptionally, when additional documentation is needed in specific cases, the period may be extended up to a maximum of 60
calendar days.

The current fee for this visa ranges over 500 to 600 HKS and must be settled in cash upon application. Fees are non-
refundable, regardless of the decision taken about your visa application.

Please note that submission of all documents does not involve that the visa will be automatically granted.
