1. Why do you think that Betapharm is concerned with the total cost of ownership?

2. What do you think are the benefits or problems of Betapharm using e-sourcing in
its sourcing process?

First, e-sourcing can be used in the two hotel requirements and supply of the malic acid
due to the inverse system choosing between the prices. However, in the acid issue it has
a greater degree of complexity due to the shortage of suppliers counting only with TAO
and be meticulous regarding the quality and specifications of the product as it is used in
patients with HIV treated with EXELON. In spite of not having quality problems with the
company and any type of problem in the supply, the management believed that it was a
high price of € 145.

To analyze the positive and negative aspects we will classify them in the involved parties
that are:

• Suppliers :A positive aspect for the provider will be to obtain benefits such as assurance
of the supply of the service in the Hotels or of the Malic Acid product for a certain period
of time, which would allow them to do a better planning generating a profit in their income.
• Employees: A negative aspect will be that of the employees since they will not be able
to define where to stay due to the new process that limits. This is generated by personal
preferences.
• Global hotels .
1. For this case, using e-sourcing, there would be better supervision and control of the
expenses incurred in hotel booking expenses by employees. This would be possible in
large hotels since they have technology to be able to give support to e-sourcing in
comparison with local hotels.

• Malic acid :What would produce would be a better option with respect to the quotes that
would be obtained for the malic acid with a shorter time and a reduction of costs.
Implementing e-sourcing will create greater competitiveness, in costs and product /
service quality, providing the opportunity for growth that would benefit the company.
3. Identify the direct material in the case. What classification of direct material do
you think it is and why could e-sourcing be a disadvantage for the procurement
of this class of product?
