Find the Connection Manager in the tools menu (Admin) and manipulate connections
Make the Connection Manager available for the user on boot

– Connection are available on the desktop, in the start menu and in the connection manager

Identify different elements of the Task Bar
Evaluate the new Volume mixer if you have a USB headset on hands try it!
Change the Taskbar to auto hide and on the top of the screen
(Advanced) Change the Taskbar size to be 500 pixels using the registry editor

Switch to user and access the Search Menu using CTRL+ALT+S shortcut
In the search bar, click on the search icon to see the list of all available applications
This list will be different when used as Admin or User
Start one of your connection using the search menu
Create a Connection using the search menu
• Start Menu
As an administrator
Setup the Thin Client to prevent user to reboot or shutdown
Allow the user the run the text editor and the snipping tool
Switch back to user and confirm changes are successful
• Hints
– Taskbar settings are available in the Customization Center or in the registry under root/Dashboard
– Once the registry is modified, it may be required to apply settings to the system using the registry editor, right
click on the folder and using the apply menu
– Power Menu Options are available in Power Manager

• Advanced theming: Create your own theme with a custom background and a
HP logo in the center
Open a terminal
Go to the theme folder. # cd /etc/hptc-zero-login/styles
Copy the default folder to your own theme # cp -r default TechU2018
Step into the TechU2018 folder and edit the bgConfig.rtf using vi or hptc-text-editor
Set appropriate background and logo properties and Save
Change values and be careful with syntax
Restart Background Manager and test your new theme.

Locate the Control Panel menu in the startup menu and launch it • Notes
Switch to Administrator, restart the control panel and notice the differences
Using the Control Panel built-in search, locate date and time setup and run it.
Close the Control Panel and search date and time in the search start menu and
launch it.
Switch to administrator and using the Customization Center, Allow the the user
to change the background (Background Manager) and certificates
Switch back to user and check the results (A Logout may be required for now)
Within each category, there are special applications with an extra icon next to
them. Notice which applications have this icon. (We’ll talk about it). Try to
launch one
In the Control Panel, select the Keyboard manager, attempt to change
keyboard but instead of applying the changes, select another item from this
category. Notice what happens!

– Each control panel applets can still be launched as stand alone applications

To prepare for next Lab we will do a factory reset of our ThinPro OS
Switch to Admin and locate the factory reset program in either the search menu
or the control panel
Factory reset the system
(Advanced) Open a terminal and perform a factory reset from the command line
• Hints
– Within a terminal, you can find the factory reset command by typing fact and
pressing Tab to display available command starting with fact.
– The command name is factory-reset.sh, Using the -h parameter will show you
available options. Try running with the -y parameter
