3.3. Online and Blended Learning: Candidates develop, model, and facilitate the use of online
and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks to support and extend student
learning and expand opportunities and choices for professional learning for teachers and
administrators (PSC 3.3/ISTE 3c)

Artifact: Multimedia Project

The artifact I chose to demonstrate mastery of Standard 3.3 Content Standard & Students
Technology is the Multimedia Design Project written for ITEC 7445, Multimedia and Web
Design in Education. I designed a WebQuest about weathering and erosion for middle and high
school science. The project gave me the opportunity to apply design principles as well as to
create rich technology activities aligned with the science standards.

The Multimedia Design Project demonstrates mastery of Standard 3.3 because it was created to
model and facilitate technology-based learning experiences that allow students to learn content
in a blended learning environment. That is, the project supports and extends student learning
since the project is based on The project consisted of two components. The first component is the
WebQuest itself which was displayed on a Weebly education website. The second component of
the project is the report. In the report, the context for the project is stated as well as the standards,
both science and ISTE, that the project was aligned with. Additionally, the report included the
learning objectives the students should meet as a result of completing the project. The report also
described the way in which the project will be implemented. It was extremely important for me
to outline the steps a teacher implementing this project would have to follow in order to be
successful; especially if the project is used for professional learning. Moreover, the report also
included the way in which the project would be evaluated. The design and development of this
artifact was extremely extensive and rich in research-based learning strategies. The activities
required the student to use inquiry and the scientific process in order to learn the concepts of
weathering and erosion. Moreover, the students were required to engage in literacy based
activities such as reading and writing about science. Lastly, the students were also required to
create a model/prototype of erosion in order to provide a sound solution to a real-life project.

This project definitely models exemplary technology-enhanced learning experiences because it

is extremely comprehensive. This project took intensive planning and research on my behalf
since I had to make sure the activities were developmentally appropriate for middle and high
school students. As a result, I had a small group of high school and middle school students
provide feedback on the project. Overall, the completion of this project was extremely rewarding
for me. I also made sure this project required students to collaborate and communicate in order to
complete the activities. The activities for this project were very complex since the students had to
apply learning to real-life situations by becoming problem solvers and by using creativity to find
solutions.
I learned a lot about creating a WebQuest by completing this project. The intense amount of
work put into it helped me realize how important it is to plan technology-enhanced activities that
are challenging but also enjoyable to all students. I also learned a lot about design principles. I
had to apply the principles of consistency, contrast, repetition, and proximity to the WebQuest in
order to make it look professional and appealing to the students, Lastly, I had the opportunity to
collaborate with students and teachers throughout the duration of this project.

The creation of technology-enhanced learning experiences impacts teachers and students alike.
That is, when teachers create projects such as a WebQuest, other teachers are inspired and
motivated to create similar projects as well. I also believe the success and impact of this project
can be assessed through students’ performance as they complete the project.
