BEHAVIOURAL ASPECTS OF BUILT ENVIRONMENT

A.1 The clip about the match between South Africa and India is a highly emotionally charged
situation, as it must have been emotionally so hard for the Indian Cricket Team to stand against the
win for South Africa, where South Africa was sure of its win. But still Indian Team held their
confidence to defeat the South African Team. Because of the confidence they had and the urge to
succeed even in the face of failure, the team put-forth a tough match strategy against South Africa.
The hope of winning the match for Indian Cricket Team was so feeble. It was the power of Emotional
Stability or Emotional Intelligence which made them believe that nothing is impossible and even an
about to be defeated match can be won when there is motivation, self awareness and self
regulation.

It is therefore, the Daniel Goleman’s Ability model in other words the self motivation which the
team believed on and because of this they had strong drive for winning the match, they were
optimistic even in the face of failure and they had maintained an organizational commitment.

Furthermore, it must have been tough for the captain, MS Dhoni to correctly and efficiently use the
capabilities of his team, which can be done only when the correct mapping of the team’s
competencies is achieved. The understanding of the team’s capabilities and using the empathy and
social skills briefly referred as relationship management is thoroughly established. This would have
certainly been a very big challenge but he knew his team and also knew how to use them efficiently.

A.2 (a) I have been in a very emotionally charged situation at my previous job, where it was really
hard to make my ground staff work. It was difficult to make them understand the course of action
required to complete the job. Sometimes, I would hold it against them as I believed they can’t do the
job properly and they only were concerned about the wages. But I believed that the work was a
group work and in order to make it work I had to collaborate and comfort myself towards the nature
of different personality’s workers had.

So I started collaborating with them by getting to know there strength, there performance mode,
and there values. I also started to self access myself in creating responsible relationships.

I chose to self regulate myself by accepting the change finding comfort in ambiguity, believing that
change is inevitable and to control my emotions and impulses need for the regulation of my
behavior is required.

So it is necessary to have Emotional Intelligence at workplace as it is needed for the creation of


harmonious culture in between the different personalities. In order, to achieve this self regulation,
empathy, relationship management, social skill and emotional coaching is requires which is
thoroughly explained by Daniel Goleman’s model of Emotional Intelligence.

2.(b) If I am supposed to be a coach to critically analyze the situation, I would have definitely
recommended regulation for self which is self awareness, social recognition which is social
awareness and social regulation which is increasing social skills. Furthermore, it would have been
better to first analyze the situation and then act accordingly. We always believe what we want to but
never believe what we should. Better interaction with the co-workers would have been an
opportunity and taking feedback from them would have been a great solution for self assessment
and self motivation. Emotionally being intelligent would have made things easier and much easier to
work for which otherwise was stressful and unappealing.

A.3 1. Self Awareness: I got a score of 18 for Self awareness construct from questions 1-5, which is
more than the 17 and means I am self aware emotionally. My strengths are that I am self confident
and I am emotionally stable to handle situations which will help me in choosing alternatives in a
better way. My opportunities are that I will be able to know how my behavior will impact and how
know about the people in a better manner.

2. Self Management: The score I got is 18 for the questions from 6-10, which depicts that I can get
along with people and handle conflicts effectively. I am optimistic, adaptable and achievement
oriented. My opportunities include that I will be able to manage myself easily in a new work
environment and initiate the work given or assigned to me. I will be able to withstand social changes
and handle distractions.

3. Social Awareness: The score I got is 17 which exhibits that I have empathy, I am service oriented
which will provide me opportunities to serve the customers efficiently and understand them. I will
have opportunity to work cross-culturally and retaining talent.

4. Relationship Management: I got 18 score in relationship construct which shows that I able to
regulate people and have better relationships. I am able to resolve conflicts and I am trustworthy.
This also depicts that have leadership qualities and I am better in managing teams. Besides that I can
be a mentor and coach. I can be an influencer and a spokesperson.

5. Emotional Coaching: I got score of 20, which represents that I am able to communicate better
with regards to different emotions. I am able to understand and act for the emotions in a group. I am
able to contribute to the various conflicts which need emotional intelligence and emotional
directive.
