FTTx Networking Protection

Definition
Huawei access devices support comprehensive E2E networking protection
solutions, which protect access devices, the network side, and the access side
by rapidly switching services to the standby link in the event of a fault on the
active link. This ensures stable service running and improves access network
reliability.
Protected Object Solution Function
Dual control boards
Supports rapid active/standby switching in the
Dual power boards
Device hardware event of a hardware fault or system upgrade.
Dual upstream
Shares the load, doubling the total bandwidth.
transmission boards
Shares the load and increases upstream bandwidth.
Ethernet link
Members in an aggregation group back up each

Is compatible with STP and RSTP and remedies STP
Network and RSTP drawbacks.
side Multiple Spanning Supports rapid convergence. The duration is
Tree Protocol (MSTP) determined based on the number of nodes on the
Ethernet ring.
uplink ring Supports non-Huawei devices.
networks
ITU-T G.8032-

compliant Ethernet
class switching requirement of 50 ms.
ring protection
Supports non-Huawei devices.
switching (ERPS)
Improves uplink reliability when STM-1 ports are
STM-1 STM-1 port
connected to an SDH device to provide the TDM

service.
Protects OLT's GPON ports and feeder fibers.
GPON type B
Features lower cost and simpler implementation
protection
when compared with GPON type C protection.
PON
Access side Protects OLT's GPON ports, feeder fibers, optical
downlinks
GPON type C splitters, and distribution fibers.
protection Provides higher reliability than GPON type B
protection.

Both Ethernet link aggregation and Ethernet port protection groups can work with
ARP detection or bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD) to rapidly switch links,
meeting the 50-ms carrier-class switching requirement.

5. GPON Type B and Type C Protection
