Intern Job Description

Position title: Child Care and Development Program Intern

Date of Posting: September 10, 2010

Project timeline: Between 6 months to 1 year beginning January 1, 2010. Hours are 15-25
hours a week, with flexible hours ranging from 7:45am-2:45pm.

Project description: As part of the transitional program team, the Child Care and Development
Program Intern would begin her internship by gaining the necessary skills in non-violent parenting,
practical child care experience, and domestic violence training at CPAF. This multi-faceted
process of learning will be comprised of these main components:

1. Training at CPAF: Training will consist of our agency and state requirement of 65 hours
in the area of domestic violence and sexual assault. Training will also occur on a team
level wherein interns will learn how the programs at the Transitional Shelter run and
integrate their own education and experience into their role as an intern. Interns will
gain knowledge of the philosophy of non-violent parenting and how to work with
children under this philosophy.
2. Practical Experience: Interns will gain necessary practical experience on understanding
the impact of domestic violence on women and children as well as recognize child
development patterns. This will be ascertained through hands-on interaction with the
children and youth in the transitional shelter. Interaction will occur primarily in the
Child Care and Development Program with children ages 0-5 and their mothers.
3. Program Development: Interns will learn to develop programs with respect to the
agency’s current structure as well as future needs. INTERN WILL COORDINATE WITH
RESPECTIVE STAFF ON VARIOUS PROGRAMS. Intern will coordinate with Children’s
Program Associate to present new ideas and improve ongoing programs pertaining to
the Child Care and Development Program. Intern will be coordinating monthly outings
with children and arrange for volunteers to actively participate in these events.

The purpose of this is to create a sense of ongoing learning, project completion and practical
experience gained by the selected candidate over the course of the internship. An internship plan
will be created with the assistance of the supervisor and transitional program team in order to
ensure a sense of learning and gain by everyone.

Stipend Amount: $100.00 per month for a minimum six month commitment.
