Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Prior to the lesson, students will watch a BrainPop video about plants. They will gain an introductory level
understanding of the parts of a plant. After the video, the students will be directed onto NearPod where I will
lead the classroom in a few activities related to the parts of a plant. Students will be using tablets/computers
for this activity. I will introduce the activity as a form of review or a formative assessment.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☒ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:
The SRT activity will be done as a review. The teacher will pull up Quizlet on the smart board. I will select the
flashcard tool on Quizlet. I will start by using the definition side of the flashcard. I will read the definition to
the class. Students will write down their answers on a sheet of paper. If questions are asked the teacher will
lead the class in a group discussion where misconceptions can be answered. Students will then be given 10
minutes to play some of the games that Quizlet offers. During this time the teacher will review the student's
answers. Grades will not be given, this activity is solely done was a formative assessment to gauge
understanding
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☐ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☒ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response
If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10): N/A
Reflective Practice:
Students will have a better understanding of the parts of a plant. To extend further learning students can
build their own plant. Students may use online designing modules or they may construct one using different
materials gathered from inside or outside of the classroom. I might even call in a plant expert to come to talk
to the students on how plants are made and what special roles plants play in our environment.
