CE 1: Traffic forecast.
The airport of “Somewherecity”, capital of the region of “Anywhereland” has shown the following
evolution in terms of total enplaned passengers during the last decade compared with the total
enplanements of the region (table 1)

The population of the city and the area that surrounds it has been growing steadily during the last years.
The reason is that a wonderful hidden Mayan city and a source of oil have been discovered in the early
2000’s. Then the population is expected to keep growing at least for the next 50 years. The evolution of
the population during the last decade is shown in table 2

Anywhereland Airport Agency (AAA) wants to develop a traffic forecast for the next 50 years in order to
adapt the existing airport facilities to the future demand.

Due to the location of the city (the middle of the jungle and in between of many mountains) the only
runway of the airport is very short and can only handle small turboprop jets as the ERJ 145.

The only airline serving the airport “JungleWings” does not expect to change its fleet and has a
commercial policy of targeting a Load Factor of 70% for its scheduled flights.

During the next class we will analyze how to develop a traffic forecast for this agency. For that you will
need to:

- Bring your computer to class (equipped with Microsoft Excel)

- Enable the analysis tool pack (File / Options / Add-ins / Manage / tick analysis tool-pack)
- Copy the data of the tables in one of the tabs to not waste time in class (copy it in the same
format as it is presented above)
