Recording Authentic Material using Screen Capturer Recorder

Selecting authentic material is one of the instructors’ performance standards at the

Defense Language Institute (DLI). This authentic material is used to develop tasks required for
teaching foreign language. Screen Capturer Recorder is one of the recommended software that
enable instructors to record audios and videos from different websites to be used in classroom
and assessment purposes. The following is a step-by-step instruction for using Screen Capturer
Recorder on Windows 10.

A) Preparation
1. Getting the software program
Download the free version of Screen Capturer Recorder following this link
https://sourceforge.net/projects/screencapturer/files/
2. Setting the software program

a) Go to the icon and double click on the application. A separate

window will open.
b) Select “OPTIONS” and click on it, a new window will open.

c) Click on “Select audio device” and from the pop-up window select “virtual-
audio-capturer” then click “done selecting audio”.
d) Go to “Select video device” click on it and a small pop-up window will appear
with drop menu, from the drop menu select “screen-capturer-recorder” then
select YES and the window will close.
e) Check the box next to “Save to file” and then click on “Set directory” where
you can select a directory to save your recorded video.
 f) Close this window by clicking on the “x” on the right upper corner of the
Recording Option window. Now the program is ready for recording and the
“Start” button is active.

3. Selecting the authentic material

Choose the video you like to record from a website and keep it standby for recording.
B) Recording
The following is a step-by-step process of recording
1. Go to the application icon and click “start”, a transparent “screen selection window”
will open.
2. Adjust this screen to cover the video screen on the website.

3. Click on the “screen selection window” first to start recording.
4. Click on the start button of the video to play the video.
5. Complete the recording the video, then click on the “stop” button of the program to
stop recording.
6. A new window will pop-up showing the directory where the recorded video is.
Rename the recorded video.
7. Click on the “x” sign found on the right upper corner of the program window to close
it.
