 What is Pyrolysis?

● Pyro = heat. Lysis = break

down.
● Pyrolysis is the process of
breaking down large
polymer molecules into
smaller oil / lubricant, gas
and carbon molecules using
heat.
● Pyrolysis is also known as
depolymerization, thermal
cracking, cracking, and
thermolysis.
Pyrolysis is an internationally recognized
disposal process for non-recyclable plastic
and tire waste.

When conventional recycling of plastic waste is not possible, such

plastic waste is called end-of-life plastic waste. Sich plastic waste
can be recycled chemically by production of basic chemicals and
fuels by process of depolymerisation (pyrolysis).
