Examples of in-text citations:

According to Mike Ribble (2013), "digital citizenship can be defined as the
norms of appropriate, responsible behavior with regard to technology use" (p.#).
Therefore, it is important that as we introduce technology into our classrooms, that
we also teach our students how to be good digital citizens.

OR
"Digital citizenship can be defined as the norms of appropriate, responsible
behavior with regard to technology use" (Ribble, 2013, p.#). Therefore, it is
important that as we introduce technology into our classrooms, that we also teach
our students how to be good digital citizens.

Notice how the quote was not left "hanging". A

follow up sentence was used to make a connection
between the quote and author's purpose.
If you are using a website that does not
contain a page number, then leave it out.

The period at the end of the sentence goes after the citation.

This guide was created as a "quick start" to citing in APA formatting. Ultimately, it is YOUR responsibility
to know how to reference sources. You may need to consult Purdue Owl for situations that occur beyond
"the basics". If you use an online tool to help with creating references page (tools that auto-create
references), it is still your responsibility to check and make sure all sources are formatted appropriately.
