Data : 100 year, 1 hour rainfall : 4.7 inches

dh is calculated by interpolation from table C8-1,ASCE 7-10. The scupper width measured fromarchitectural
drawings 16".

flow rate out of a single drainage system,in gal/min Q  0.0104 ˜ Ar ˜ i 8.33 ft
i.e.=99.95 gal/min

By interpolation between 6 in and 24 in,for 16 in wide scupper flowrates are as follows,

for 1 in head 48 gal/min and for 2 in head it is 133.33 gal/min

Interpolation between a hydraulic head of 1 and 2 in. as follows,

dh=1+[(99.95-48)/(133.33-48)]=1+0.60 = 1.60 in
The roof and its drainage has been designed so that no more than 4.7" of water is allowed to pond on
any portion of roof. Hence ds+dh =4.7 in

ds = Depth of Water on the un deflected roof up to the d s 3.1in

inlet of secondary drainage system

dh = Depth of Water on the un deflected roof up to the d h 1.6in By interpolation

inlet of secondary drainage system

R. = Rain load on the un deflected roof in lb/ft 2

R  5.2 d s  d h R = 24.44 psf <26 psf

Note: 26 psf Rain load was calculated considering the ds+dh=5 in refer to previous pagecalculations.
