A volcano is a mountain formed by the eruption of molten rock from underground. Lava (hot,
runny rock) spews out of the crater of the volcano during an eruption. With each new eruption,
over time, the volcano grows a little taller.
What is a cave?
A hollow or natural passage under or into the earth, especially one with an opening to the surface
.
Mountains can be very rocky and barren: you wouldn’t expect to find much up there.
A tropical marine climate is usually experienced by islands and coastal areas 10° to 20° north
or south of the equator. The ocean is the main influence in creating the tropical marine climate.
There are two main seasons — the wet season and the dry season.
Natural resources, on the other hand, are resources that occur in nature without being produced
by a human.
Natural resources come from the ocean, ground or other parts of the environment without
being produced by humans or animals.
Petroleum is an example of a natural resource, because it occurs in nature without human
production. Petroleum is extracted from the ground and modified to produce the gasoline
used to power vehicles and machines.
Stone and sand are also examples of natural resources.
One common aspect of all natural resources is that they can be used to aid in human life
processes.
A rain shadow is a patch of land that has been forced to become a desert because mountain
ranges blocked all plant-growing, rainy weather.
Relief rainfall
Relief rainfall occurs when air has been blown over the sea and is then forced up over an area of
high land.
This causes the air to cool and the moisture in the air condenses and rain falls.
Frontal rainfall
o Frontal rainfall occurs when warm air is forced to rise over cold air.
o The moisture in the warm air condenses as it cools which causes clouds and rain.
Convectional rainfall
o Occurs mostly in tropics where it is hot.
o When air is hot is rises and cools and condenses forming rain.
o If the air is hot enough, it rises very quickly and can cause thunderstorms.

When a place is in a drought, it is dry and hot, often dusty; cracks may appear in the soil, and
rivers, lakes, streams, and other sources of water can go dry. A drought means that a place has
less precipitation (rain or snow) than normal over a few months or even longer.
What is mining?
A wetland is an area of land that is either covered by water or saturated with water. The water is
often groundwater, seeping up from an aquifer or spring.
Conservation
In social studies it means to preserve something or some place, it almost is the same thing
Sustainable Development and Use of Resources
A resource is a source or supply from which benefit is produced. Typically resources are
materials, services, staff, or other assets that are transformed to produce benefit and in the
process may be consumed or made unavailable.Benefits of resource utilization may include
increased wealth, meeting needs or wants, proper functioning of a system, or enhanced well
being. From a human perspective a natural resource is anything obtained from the environment
to satisfy human needs and wants. From a broader biological or ecological perspective a resource
satisfies the needs of a living organism.
Human resources is the set of individuals who make up the workforce of an organization,
business sector, or economy.
Natural resources are derived from the environment. Some of them are essential for our survival
while most are used for satisfying our wants. Natural resources may be further classified in
different ways.
Sustainable development
Sustainable development promotes the idea that social, environmental, and economic progress
are all attainable within the limits of our earth’s natural resources. Sustainable development
approaches everything in the world as being connected through space, time and quality of life
