And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with
God and men.
Luke 2:52
Wisdom is the application of knowledge—it is
knowing what to do with the things we know. If we
are wise, it will be evident in our actions and words.
Wisdom is a gift from God. In this lesson, we will look
at how we can grow in wisdom as we follow Him.
1. Live in the fear of the Lord.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who
follow his precepts have good understanding. . . .
Psalm 111:10
Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the
fear of the LORD a man avoids evil.
Proverbs 16:6
Having the fear of the Lord means having a genuine
reverence for God, acknowledging who He is in
our lives. When we live in the fear of the Lord, we
value our relationship with Him, avoid evil, and grow
in wisdom. How has living in the fear of the Lord
changed you?
2. Love the Word of God.

My son, if you accept my words and store up my
commands within you, 2turning your ear to wisdom and
applying your heart to understanding . . . 5then you will
understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge
of God.
Proverbs 2:1,2
The Word of God is full of wisdom. As we read,
meditate on, and prioritize this Word, we will grow in
wisdom. Do you delight in God’s Word? How does
God’s Word give you insight and understanding?
3. Ask God for wisdom.
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives
generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given
to him.
James 1:5
God is the source of wisdom. When we need
wisdom, we should go to Him. Recall a time when
you asked God for wisdom for a specific situation.
