To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is in reference to the character and capabilities of Reuben Haggar. I have been Reuben’s
direct supervisor for the past academic year and a half.

Reuben spent his first year of full time high school teaching here at Centennial Christian School
(CCS). It is important to understand the immensity of that task. As a small school, with enrollment
hovering around 150, Reuben was the entire high school English department. This meant, among the
burdens typically associated with new teachers, Reuben was tasked with fleshing-out the grade 10-12
curriculum, developing from scratch an AP Lit course, monitoring the peer-tutoring program, and
participating in a re-accreditation committee, all while teaching 5 preps to a predominately
intermediate ESL student body. Suffice it to say Reuben lived at school. Despite this, he showed no
sign of first-year fatigue. Having observed his class several times, I found him to be one of the more
dynamic teachers. Furthermore, several of his observed lesson plans involved great degrees of
student-centered learning with a heavy emphasis on literacy development, a skill set crucial to
international students such as ours. This reveals a grasp of pedagogy characteristic of more seasoned
professionals.

Although Reuben proved himself to be a competent teacher, well beyond his years of experience, his
area of greatest contribution remains outside of the classroom. As one of the young teachers, he
quickly garnered the adoration of the student body, while at the same time maintaining a level of
competency in pedagogy and professionalism in rapport that earned their respect. An excellent
example of this ability to speak into student’s lives comes from last year. When brainstorming a list of
names as to who could lead our male students in a candid dialogue on the topic of how to treat women
with dignity and respect, Reuben’s name topped the list; a list not often populated by twenty-
something year old men. Quick to volunteer, always willing to speak before the student body in
assemblies and chapels, and active with a laid-back energy that belies a dynamic personality, Reuben
has become the poster child of our unwritten discipleship program.

It breaks my heart to hear that Reuben is contemplating leaving our school. He has become a
cornerstone of so much that we do here. However, I know and trust his heart for God and for service
and believe that he is walking in obedience. Needless to say, he has my whole-hearted
recommendation.

Sincerely,

Ben Sullivan
