COURSE DESRIPTION:
World History is a one credit, year long course in the ninth-grade year with an honors option that
will study history from ancient civilizations to the present day. It is also designed to introduce
students to the various methods by which history can be examined and understood. The course
touches upon the great intellectual, political, and philosophical ideas that fostered Western
Civilization. It also covers economic and religious forces that have shaped civilization. Students
who graduate from this course will have a solid grounding in the history of the ancient world,
great civilizations, and of historical ideas, themes, and trends. This will allow them to better
understand the other history-based subjects taught at Oak Ridge Military Academy. Along with
the material, students will learn to write analytical essays on various historical questions and
proper note taking and study skills on a high school level.

GRADES:
Quarter grades will be determined by the following criteria:
Tests/Projects: 30% Quizzes: 25%
Class work/Homework: 30% Participation: 15%
Semester grades will be determined by the following criteria:
Quarter 1: 35% Quarter 2: 35% Semester Exam: 30%
Quarter 3: 35% Quarter 4: 35% Semester Exam: 30%

LATE OR MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENTS:


Students who are absent will have the number of days they were absent to make-up the
assignments missed during that absence. All assignments due during an absence must be turned
in at the beginning of the period upon return. Homework assignments not turned in on the due
date must be completed ASAP as the possible credit earned will decrease by 10 points each day
it’s late with a minimum completion grade of 30% for assignments completed during the quarter
assigned. All outstanding assignments stay a zero after the quarter ends.
Cheating: Automatic zero for copying or for letting others copy your work.
